I have a friend who spent three summers in Russia. Most of the toilets were not toilets at all. They were sqwatty potties, or a hole in the floor with two white pads on either side for your feet. I have seen these in Greece, Romania, and India.

If you have bad knees...good luck.

We used to call those the “Persian Version” in Teheran. A few years earlier, a pal of mine dropped his car keys down one of those in a bar in Japan. The proprietor had a jury-rigged retrieval device. This had obviously happened in there before.
