The head of the Russian parliament's foreign affairs committee says Edward Snowden has accepted Venezuela's offer of political asylum.

Alexei Pushkov made the statement on his Twitter account Tuesday. The message did not clarify how he learned of Snowden's purported acceptance, but Pushkov has acted as an unofficial point-man for the Kremlin on the Snowden affair.

Accepting the offer is one thing, getting there is another.

Venezuela has been berry, berry good to Barry. He should not trust them with his life and freedom.

If I were Snowden I would have probably preferred asylum in Russia over Venezuela.
If he’s worried about a hit team then nothing short of SS (equivalent) protection in Russia will protect him.
I would go off grid for a good while if I were him.

That’s all nice and good but my main concern is still about the scumbag NSA shredding the constitution.

Snowden going off grid would be like Socrates living outside the city, he may as well be dead.

Good point. I think I would have gone with Ecuador. But it beats coming back here and getting fried by the police state. No toilet paper though. Eeeek!

Accepting the offer is one thing, getting there is another.

Step 1: Get a Venezuela Passport issued by the embassy in Moscow.

Step 2: Get a one way ticket - Moscow to Caracas via Havana

Step 3: Load up on toilet paper

Step 4: Fly to Caracas

Step 5: Enjoy life in a socialist paradise or at least as long as your toilet paper holds out.

In Venezuela he will have to worry about Maduro being unable to maintain the Chavez machine, and with having to flee for his life after the next election and/or coup.

They won’t try and stop his plane though. The Evo Morales thing outed us on that. Personally I think we were set up.

You ever see the kind of toilet paper they have in Moscow?

Short of facial reconstruction you are right.
Even then he has a long shot.
If they are going to get him I would hope he is going to unleash everything he has that won’t actually compromise national security.

Nope. I just heard they have plenty of it.

His best way to stick it to our country now would be to commit suicide. No one would believe it was really a suicide.

If you are pretty sure “they” are going to kill you regardless, then the only thing to do is dump everything you know to the public domain.

If you are marked for death ,either for what you have told,or for what someone fears you may still know but haven’t told, getting it out is the only tool left to hurt your would-be killers.

It leaves them only revenge as a motive, and they may just be too busy dealing with the info release to come after you.

Kind of like the soldier who is lying wounded ,about to be shot by an enemy, who rolls over and presents the enemy with his last grenade, pin pulled. If I’m going, you’re going with me!

I have a friend who spent three summers in Russia. Most of the toilets were not toilets at all. They were sqwatty potties, or a hole in the floor with two white pads on either side for your feet. I have seen these in Greece, Romania, and India.

If you have bad knees...good luck.

I think he has signed an exclusive with Glenn Greenwald and the UK Guardian in exchange for funds to keep his little adventure going.

Step 1 - secure a location to live

Step 2 - build a cover story

Step 3 - release your cover story

Step 4 - when everyone is focused on your cover, slip away to actual location

Step 5 - assume new identity in new location

Step 6 - Be very careful with who and how you communicate outside your cover, and how you access money. Perhaps he sets up an Ebay seller account and “sells” trinkets/clothes/cars...

Step 1: Get a Venezuela Passport issued by the embassy in Moscow.

Step 2: Get an open ended visa to visit Russia

Step 3: Leave the Moscow airport transit area using visa.

Step 4: Relax and live the good life surrounded by beautiful Russian ladies.
