Conservative groups urge Boehner to act on immigration reform in the House
The Hill ^ | 7/7/13 | Jonathan Easley

Three influential conservative groups on Tuesday urged Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) to pursue immigration reform in the House.

In a letter to Boehner, American Action Forum President Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist, and American Conservative Union Chairman Al Cardenas said their groups support many of the key elements in the immigration reform bill recently passed by the Senate, including the pathway to citizenship.

American Action Forum President Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist, and American Conservative Union Chairman Al Cardenas...

You have to understand the "newspeak"

"Conservative" in this context, means to "conserve" the GOP-e status quo.

Once you see it in that light, then having these groups call themselves "conservative" makes sense - in a Karl Rove, bizarro world kind of way.

Whether or not these people are conservative on other issues, or not, is totally immaterial to the present debate. There is nothing remotely--nothing even arguably Conservative--about the Schumer/McCain Bill.

Please, let us focus on the issue, not play "follow the leader," over what will determine a great deal about the American future.

For all who value the wisdom of the Founding Fathers: Note, Jefferson was among the most tolerant men who ever lived, but he understood that our Anglo/Celtic cultural roots were not interchangeable with the Hispanic/Mestizo culture, south of the border. He justified the Louisiana Purchase on that basis. Please, whether you agree with his thinking or not, at least consider the argument. (See Immigration & The American Future.)

We have huge unemployment. We have far more people in America today, than when we first realized that we needed to restrict the flow of immigrants into America, after the open frontier closed. We have grid-lock already in our major urban areas, where most of any new immigrants may be expected to congregate--where we already see many here illegally.

People are not interchangeable. A nation is not a game of musical chairs. Those who fill the chairs determine the characteristics, the ongoing culture of the nation.

It is not possible to overstate the importance of this battle. It goes to the very soul of what will be the America of tomorrow.

That's just the last straw. It's bad enough to not represent conservatives when that's why they're there, but it's just gratuitous insult to pretend to represent conservatives when they most brazenly do not. It seems the only thing they've learned from Obama and the lying left, is how to lie through their teeth even when it's plain that they are. They certainly didn't learn how to control the media or defeat the opposition, instead they're joining the opposition.

Well said. Immigrants who don’t want to assimilate, had the countries they could create in the countries they fled, sneaking into the US.

You are right. I think it was Rush who laid out the trick behind this little one-party shell game.

Dems, with the media shrilly hawking their wares for them, introduce as essential and urgent some horrendous legislation that the country neither needs nor wants. They will need the support of Republicans. And they will get it. Every time.

No Republicans- or far too few - will do the obvious thing that any conservative would do, which is not to take the bait, but to refute instead the assumption that the legislation, in ANY form, is either needed nor wanted, and betrays conservative principles, which are inherently compassionate and good for the country.

No. Instead the Republicans will take the bait, admit the fallacy that “We must do something, and NOW!”, and scurry about coming up with their own legislative compromise, perhaps slightly less ludicrous or slightly less destructive of our nation, but not much, and maybe not at all. Out of committee it ends up a horrible bill, rushed through by some manufactured deadline because “it’s a crisis” of some sort, and “now is the time,” and no one has even read it.

True conservatives should simply insist there will be no immigration legislation on their watch, insisting instead that previous legislation be enforced first.

“Just say NO”

Of course, the sociopaths that have commandeered our government will see to it that no one will do the obvious. I believe it will take a revolution.

Yes. And the same is true of the phoney radio & TV ads from supposedly "conservative" organizations. Always demand rational arguments, not sloganized appeals to follow the leader! The Left, in America, increasingly follows the tactics that brought Hitler to power in Germany & consolidated his leadership: Intimidation of all dissent, and the appeal of a "a new follow the Leader" mentality. (The appeal of a "follow the leader" mentality, is that it makes being too lazy to think for yourself, seem not only easy, but somehow admirable.)

Further, consider how ridiculous it is for anyone to argue that temporary economic benefits--at the expense of a people's heritage, and the interests of their lineal descendants--is a Conservative principle! It isn't. Economic benefits, even where real--whereas here they are totally illusory--were never the sole consideration of those who originally settled America; or those who rallied to independence in 1775-1781. Should we surrender their achievement for imagined momentary gain?

"Conservative" has so many conflicting meanings that I try to avoid using the term unless I qualify it: E.g., "constitutional conservative", "church conservative", "borders-language-culture conservative", "country-club conservative".

The kind of "conservative" referred to in the article is the last of these four. "Country-club conservatives" want total freedom for those in business management and don't necessarily care about anyone else's liberty or well-being. In particular, they support anything that means cheap labor, such as open borders.

"Don’t forget the fake conservative group funded by the facebook guy."

Americans For A CONservative Direction, funded by IPO failure Mark Zuckerburg (trying to be a George Soros clone)!!!

Our local Sacramento radio station that gave Rush Limbaugh his "big show bidness break," has sold Suckerburg ad time during Rush's show and it's so insulting. Thanks for NOTHING, KFBK!!!

Once they are “legal” they will demand and receive the vote in a year. And republicans will be blamed for denying it to them.

Face it the only fair policy is to deport foreigners who are here illegally. Hear anybody discussing that?

We Americans are now garbage, non citizens are to be favored they deserve everything and you are a hater for not giving it to them. America is finished and all the RINO’S going along know that already. They just want to make money shoveling the ashes.

Always demand from those claiming to be "Conservative," to know just what they are trying to conserve?! If they are not about conserving the heritage of America, they are not politically, socially or economically conservative. Promoting futuristic projects as substitutes for what was once our purpose, is the antithesis of conservative.

In other news today, conservative activist Hillary Clinton demanded the House take up the immigration bill. Wow, this is fun, all I have to do is say someone is conservative and it makes it so. It is like I have a Harry Potter magic conservative wand to wave.

There is no reason to give an illegal alien a damn thing. It’s national suicide.

Why would anyone confer citizenship on an illegal citizen from another country? For them patriotism is a joke.

Those deliberately deceptive radio ads, to which you refer, ought to motivate every true Conservative to fight that much harder against this vicious effort to undermine traditional American values. That we are being subjected to Soviet & Nazi era word games, rather than rational arguments, tells one how late the hour; how dangerous the issue.

Always demand rational arguments, never buy into this "follow the leader" game. We are not susceptible children to follow a Pied Piper to our demise.

Douglas Holtz-Eakin, Grover Norquist and Al Cardenas are NOT Conservative!

And Boehner knows it. But, because most people don't know that, this will give him cover to send a trojan horse House bill back to the Senate. "See, conservative groups want immigration reform!" It's like that Zuckerberg-backed campaign from "Americans for a Conservative Direction" that pumped endless advertisements on all the conservative talk radio shows. Because it had the word "Conservative" in the name, people not paying as close attention as you or I were fooled by it.

The slogans are talking points of the Hispanic Leadership Network, a group created by American Action Network. American Action Network bills itself as "center-right" and is running radio ads.

American Action Network, American Action Forum, and Hispanic Leadership Network, are inter-related groups controlled by Jeb Bush, Karl Rove, et al.

While I have absolutely no use for Karl Rove, who is an unprincipled & analytically dysfunctional lout, in my opinion, and very little if any for Jeb Bush--after some of his recent comments, as well as his handling of certain matters while Governor of Florida;--their involvement is not the key issue, as to misleading ads.

When people propose something for which they do not have legitimate justification & then resort to deliberately misleading advertisements, we are dealing with the most vicious species of fraud. Here it is not just our wealth that is being stolen, but our yet more precious heritage.

We need to rededicate ourselves to fighting this betrayal, and the dirtier the tactics of our foe, the more dedicated must be our efforts.

Again, consider that Washington & Jefferson were on our side, in this. Make no mistake. It is only by deception that that idea is not generally understood. They risked everything to vouchsafe a heritage that these bastards want to surrender. This is all about preserving what true Conservatives have always honored. (See Immigration & The American Future.)
