The debate over George W. Bush’s legacy has erupted into a brawl at the University of Denver over whether to present the former president with an award for his humanitarian work.

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies’ plan to honor Mr. Bush at a Sept. 9 fundraising dinner touched off a petition drive last month by a recent graduate, who is urging the university to “choose an alternative recipient.”

The school originally planned to honor Mr. Bush with its Improving the Human Condition Award, according to an invitation posted on the university’s website. After a spate of publicity surrounding the backlash, the name of the award was removed from the website. …

Humanitarian? Sorry Mav,,,Below the hard deck doesn’t count, it’s a basic rule of engagement.

Stealing billions from taxpayers at gunpoint, to give away to African kleptocrats, in the name of AIDS, does not a humanitarian make.

Surely most of the objectors here were what - 11 or 12 when Bush was in office?

How much do they know about him, good, bad, or indifferent?

Or does that not even matter?

They’ve been brainwashed. And your tax dollars and mine paid the lefty teachers who did it to them.

If DU really wanted to blow their minds, announce that the award would be presented to GWB by Bono.

Bush’s approval ratings are higher than Odumbo and has been rising since he’s out of office.

I know a lot here despise W after the immigration stuff, but I hate liberals more than Dubya and anything that makes their heads explode and make them suffer, makes me happy.

I recall when it was just the opposite here...In fact, Bush had his own fan (fanatic) club...The man was treated like a super celebrity...A supreme being..A royal ruler...

It was something to behold...And only complements and nice sugar coated comments were allowed...

There is no doubt about it that President Bush is a bleeding heart liberal and deserves this award.

Depends on the nature of the criticism, right?
“Former President George W. Bush left behind a legacy of human rights abuses, including the torture of detainees in extra-territorial jails, preemptive war, domestic surveillance programs, and other egregious actions that deleteriously impact the human condition,” said the petition, posted by Christine Hart, who received a master’s degree from the school last year. …
Not a typical FR criticism of Bush, I think—save one item (domestic surveillance).

I think there are a lot of us believe the GW was trying to do was he believed was correct. However he is a RINO and establishment elitist that did not embrace conservative principals.

He did a lot of good things on the GWOT, but then tried to appease Liberals instead of doing what was right.
