Can't have federal charges on a state crime.

Really? Hell,I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn last night and I know that *that's* not true.

Explain, in detail, how federal charges can be brought in this case.

One word...civil rights!

Only a law enforcement officer can deny civil rights. Zimmerman was not acting under color of law and so is immune from civil suit under Florida law.

It's a pure state crime, 2nd degree murder that's not on a federal property.

Civil rights trials seem to require state actors. Zimmerman wasn't a state actor.
