George Zimmerman will get his gun back now that he has been cleared of murder and his lawyer said today that Zimmerman needs the weapon "even more" than before.
Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara also practically dared the family of Trayvon Martin to file a widely expected civil suit against him, but said that Zimmerman might be filing lawsuits of his own.
O'Mara, in an exclusive interview with ABC News, suggested that Zimmerman has no regrets about carrying a gun on Feb. 26, 2012, the night he killed Martin, a teenager.

He said that Zimmerman intends to rearm himself. When asked if he would carry a gun, O'Mara said, 'Yes. [There's] even more reason now, isn't there? There are a lot of people out there who actually hate him, though they shouldn't."
The former neighborhood watch captain wears a protective vest when he goes out in public, although he didn't wear it to court, O'Mara said.

The surprise was how many times the weapon was disabled by pieces from the animal - wouldn't go back into battery.
Moral of his research - if you're using an auto, don't stick the muzzle up against your target or you might not get a second shot (should you need it).
Hopefully the thugs have learned their lesson and not ground-and-pound Zimmerman.

File a suit against the Martins, yes. Win it, highly unlikely.
The reason is that he would have to show that the Martins harmed him. I know some will think of slander but I have not seen any comments by the Martins (other organizations not withstanding) that would rise to meet the requirement of slander.
IOW, I believe the lawyer has kept them on a short leash for a reason.
I hope he spends some time at the range, or maybe The Gunsite Academy will offer him some FRee traing!
My thought is that Mr. Zimmerman will soon be able to afford guards and a nice private island. NBC may soon be NetworkZ, and his suit against NBC is hardly the only one he can file.
Given the records of Bammy’s Community Response Service, a suit against all including Holder and Bammy could be filed because it was a conspiracy to deprive Mr. Zimmerman of his Constitution based rights under cover of law and office.
That lil’ law has nice things for its convicted, like very long sentences.
