The not-guilty verdict for George Zimmerman in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin has outraged many people across the country, including "The Wire" creator David Simon.
In an emotional, fiery post on his blog, The Audacity of Despair, Simon denounced the verdict, saying he was "ashamed to call himself an American."
Simon knows a little something about race. He worked for 12 years as a crime reporter in Baltimore...

You can stand your ground if you're white, and you can use a gun to do it. But if you stand your ground with your fists and you're black, you're dead.
In the state of Florida, the season on African-Americans now runs year round. Come one, come all. And bring a handgun. The legislators are fine with this blood on their hands. The governor, too. One man accosted another and when it became a fist fight, one man and one man only had a firearm. The rest is racial rationalization and dishonorable commentary.
If I were a person of color in Florida, I would pick up a brick and start walking toward that courthouse in Sanford. Those that do not, those that hold the pain and betrayal inside and somehow manage to resist violence these citizens are testament to a stoic tolerance that is more than the rest of us deserve. I confess, their patience and patriotism is well beyond my own.
Behold, the lewd, pornographic embrace of two great American pathologies: Race and guns, both of which have conspired not only to take the life of a teenager, but to make that killing entirely permissible. I can't look an African-American parent in the eye for thinking about what they must tell their sons about what can happen to them on the streets of their country. Tonight, anyone who truly understands what justice is and what it requires of a society is ashamed to call himself an American."
And I am ashamed this clown IS an American.
Leave! Move to a nation with more liberties....which would be?
The season of peace is quickly leaving America....And we deserve it.
David “Brain Dead” Simon apparently doesn’t realize that BLACKS in Florida use guns to defend themselves, too...and rightfully so.
He also apparently thinks George Zimmerman is white....he backtracks when challenged by one of his few readers, saying he didn’t think George was a racist, but his actions were “racially motivated”. Idiocy. In full bloom. He doesn’t even know, I bet, that George mentored black kids and has friends who are black....
This is the kind of retarded mental activity that goes forth in the entertainment industry these days.
My questions would be:
1.. what country has done a better job than America in the areas of race relations you mention?
2..what country are you planning to emigrate to, since you are so ashamed of being an American?
3.. are you equally ashamed and alarmed at the human rights records of most other countries in the world and their treatment of ethnic/religious minorities? Do you condemn Arab/Muslim countries for their treatment of women, for example?
Planes leaving everyday...
Every time one of these Trayvon appologists pops off simply ask that if he had lived just what crimes he should have been charged with for his assault on and attempted murder of Zimmerman? If they insist that it’s none, ask them who’s the racist now?
Mr. Simon, you made a ton of money. Leave. Go to Cuba. Enjoy yourself there.
I agree with him. I to am ashamed he is an American.
He should move to Egypt.
He and his ilk are too busy bringing Cuba here.
Remind him that Martin is, was a homophobe. That’s right. The President’s very own son was a homophobe.
GUILT can Kill!
Id suggest to this poor guilt ridden SCHLUB that he do EVERYTHING he can possibly do to get to the crux of his ISSUES before guilt takes em out entirely!
Its already driven him stark raving stupid!
the audacity of inanity would be a far better name for his BLOG
He can go.... His kind were never very committed to the USA anyway.
Then renounce your citizenship and leave.
Good - leave. No, better yet, go live in Chi-Congo.
