Yep. Swimming pools were thought to be sources for spreading polio. I remember this, because I was afraid to put my face in the water, fearing the polio would seep into my ears, nose and eyes!

We went to the beach, the bay, the Gulf, lakes and rivers, you would have thought that my parents would be afraid I'd drown. They never attempted to teach me to swim in any of those places but swimming pools were dangerous. LOL!

Did they ever decide how polio was transmitted, I can't remember?
