Boehner Promises to Tackle Immigration ‘In Chunks’
The Wall Street Journal ^ | July 21,2013 | Neil King Jr.

House Speaker John Boehner reaffirmed that House Republicans planned to take a gradual, “step by step” approach to overhauling the country’s immigration system, but he didn’t put the quest at the top of his list of legislative priorities for the year.

Speaking on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” the Ohio Republican criticized the bipartisan Senate bill approved in June as both overly sweeping and lacking in sufficient border controls. House Republicans, he said, would try to tackle the problem “in chunks.”

In listing his top priorities for the rest of the year, Mr. Boehner cited deficit reduction, tax law changes and an effort to overhaul the country’s entitlement systems. He didn’t mention the continuing push to tackle immigration.

The speaker repeatedly declined to say to say whether he would support a bill that provided a route to citizenship for the 11 million or so immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally, the primary sticking point between House Republicans and the Senate bill, which passed last month.

“It is not about me,” Mr. Boehner said. “This is about allowing the House to work its will.” He declined to predict what sort of immigration legislation would eventually reach the House floor, and said his only intention was “to facilitate a process.”

Boehner’s agenda differs from Obama’s in form not substance, so who’s agenda is it?

Boehner MUST GO. Do the Republicans have any sense whatsoever? Are they of any value? Or are they soft-peddling salesmen for Obama?

Let the Dems and the media bellow all they want. Lead them on by saying you really want immigration reform, too. But never back down from the first thing that must happen: a safe, secure border that will prevent illegals from entering.

Good idea... Let’s START with a bill that closes the border. If that doesn’t work, the second bill can deal with the things the first bill failed at...

Boner would love to hear from the American people. He can be reached at 202-224-3121; just ask for Boner’s office. Wanna bet he doesn’t want our opinions?

Why can’t Boehner promise to do something he can actually accomplish successfully, like step down as speaker and work at a gas station.

As a first chunk, how about an Immigration Equal Opportunity for Legal Immigrants Bill, a Bill of Rights for immigrants? Residents of all nations will have an equal opportunity to come to the U.S. within existing laws. Anyone here illegally can join the fair and equal queue by registering, in person, from their homeland. Send that to Conference, Mr. Speaker!

No one nationality should have priority, particularly Mexicans, who have gamed the system illegally.
