The couple pulled from their upturned SUV by George Zimmerman are Dana and Mark Gerstle, MailOnline can reveal.
The rescue took place on Wednesday after a series of frantic 911 calls following the incident on a stretch of Florida highway just yards from where Zimmerman shot 17 year old Trayvon Martin.
Zimmerman, acquitted of all counts against him on July 13, has been in hiding since the controversial finding that has ignited America and brought thousands onto the streets of America.
Father of two, Mr Gerstle, 52, was driving onto the off ramp of the highway when he lost control of the vehicle resulting in the terrifying crash that left him, his wife and two children aged eight and four trapped.
Neither he nor his 41-year-old wife chose to comment on their extraordinary brush with the now infamous Neighborhood Watch Captain.
Zimmerman did not witness the accident which took place at 5.47pm but was on the scene shortly afterwards. Though he spoke with his lawyers on Friday he did not make any mention of the rescue.
Speaking to MailOnline Shawn Vincent, a spokesman for Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said: ‘We spoke with George on Friday and he made no mention of this at all. That’s very typical of George.
‘He has a history of getting involved….it’s just the way he is.
‘There has already been the backlash of people saying this is some sort of PR stunt but it isn’t. We’ve had it confirmed by the Sheriff.’............
Sanford Police Department Capt Jim McAuliffe said that Zimmerman was identified by one of the crash victims as the man who pulled him and his family from the mangled blue Ford Explorer.

GZ to 911: “There’s a family trapped in an SUV I’m approaching the vehicle” 911 dispatcher” “Uh we don’t need you to do that”.
Check the comment sections of any article on this.
Both of those were thrown out there within minutes and repeated 100’s of times.
And, from the spelling, most of them were obviously not “new skool”

Lots of "live feeds" I got to see should have been edited (like newscasters combing their hair before going "on air")--but those scenes should have been shown!
Showed me just how the "news" we see is so often not what really happened. Downright scary!
