Yeah, but if enough Chinese moved to Detroit the crime rates would drop... there wouldn't be much 'random street crime' because the Chinese are civilized... Then they would elect leaders who were intelligent and hard working and the city would turn around ..
From this distance (Nevada) I’d say, more power to ‘em. Like the Korean shop owners, they know the meaning of hard work and long hours. Enough of ‘em get in, they will turn the place around and be a major plus for America.
Like the Vietnamese immigrants, their kids will end up class valedictorians in four years. A generation or two later their kids will be called “Martha” instead of “Showana”, etc.
I say that last as once I was on assignment in Hawaii and we had a the son of a Chinese guy as a computer operator. We had to work late one night and he said he had to tell his wife that he would be late to dinner. He called. I expected him to say something like “Hello, Ming?” Instead, he said, “Martha?” Thus dieth another stereotype.

Happening to Oakland, across the bay from San Francisco. A Chinese community grew overnight, and they got a Chinese mayor. However, lots of conflict with black residents, making it a long trek to normalcy there. As Chinatown grows, crime may lessen. Problem is, there are some hard-core ghettos that will take decades to eradicate.
Detroit is far more complex, and these Chinese don't know how bad it is.
I am curious. Why do all of you think Chinese investment will reverse the decades old trends in Detroit? Seriously?
The Chinese can invest whatever they want in Detroit and more power to them. However, they won’t be able to vote and even if they could, 100k Chinese are not going to have more votes than the 700k who have consistently voted in idiots and crooks.
If anything, I could see them running the port and maintaining some order there and perhaps they could refurbish housing close to the port, but anyone who thinks a few investors in China is going to fix this mess is delusional.
Detroit is a great location and a great port that comes with some insurmountable problems - an entrenched inner-city that votes twice in every election, an entitled crowd of underperforming/overpaid public workers, a state that will trend rat, a completely broken school system, a horrific crime rate, and very poor infrastructure.
Someone please explain to me how Chinese investors can change anything outside of the port facility?
They just passed right to work legislation, but the rats and unions are challenging it in both state and federal court and they are one sleepy election away from going back to a union stranglehold on the state.
I don’t get it. The potential seems to be far outweighed by the obstacles.
It may take time for Detroit and Oakland, but they can afford it. Their investment will pay off.
Both are port cities so it will pay off in the future for them.
The majority of blacks have really screwed themselves by siding with the Justice Brothers and their ilk. They have guaranteed themselves no future by not improving themselves.
Now, you bring 50,000 ChiComs to Detroit and you’ll revive that town. They know how to work and they know how to get around corrupt government. Win-Win.
That’s a pretty sad statement because it is true. This used to be America!
