The Hillary Fascination

She’s a rock star only because people keep calling her one.

By Jonah Goldberg

‘I think she’s one of the most fascinating women of our time and this world,” confessed Bob Greenblatt, the chairman of NBC, as part of his announcement that his network is making a miniseries about former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, with Diane Lane in the starring role.

Words are funny things. For instance, G.K. Chesterton once remarked that that the word “good” has many uses: “For example, if a man were to shoot his grandmother at a range of 500 yards, I should call him a good shot but not necessarily a good man.”

This NBC movie will certainly raise questions of “equal time” next year if she’s a candidate. I would have to guess, based on the obvious collusion between NBC and the Democrat Party, that they’ll air this the week before she officially declares her candidacy, which will be a month after daily and nightly “will she or won’t she?” segments on every NBC venue in every market.

This is part of American’s problem.

Our media is an out-of-touch insular blob.

Hillary is not someone most people, even think about.

if Hillary is the Democrat nominee, she will be elected President in 2016.

But then again, ANY Democrat nominated in 2016 will be elected.

In fact I do not believe I will ever see another Republican elected President.

Yep. We reached a tipping point during Bush 43’s term from which we may never recover.

I do not agree.

The GOP is facing a unique opportunity right now.

The Dems have had the country now for 5 years.

The last election was a perfect picture of Obama and his media enablers, against Mitt.

Mitt.

Whatever you want to say about Mitt, he inspires nobody.

We have an opportunity this go-around to have a real election.

But we need to start early, be inspired and not fall into the usual lame “let the beltway tell us how things should be” routine.

AMERICA NEEDS JOBS.

Real jobs. We need to act to protect America from foreign trade, and we need to re-build our nation.

The GOP is currently out to lunch on American trade.

The GOP is currently on CHINA’S SIDE.

This is the problem. China is now a larger player in world trade, than America is.

Wake up people.

We need a party which will look out for America. For America, and for Americans.

Bring back American opportunities, and stop selling out the greatest nation in world history to the Chinese.

Wake up.

Bingo. The Republicans have repeatedly fallen into the trap of just giving it to the next guy in line with the most chits. The Dems tried that with Mondale and Dukakis and learned their lesson. Since then they have done a pretty good job at picking the candidate most capable of inspiring their troops, regardless of who was owed the most favors. Last time Hillary was owed the most, but they booted her in favor of Obama. This time she is "the next in line," with a few favors to call in between her and Bill. But if someone else looks more exciting, they will dump her.

If the Republicans go with another bland, focus-grouped, offend-nobody-insider, it may not matter who the Democrats run.

Hillary is like the Zsa Zsa Gabor of politics, i.e., famous for being famous. She’s treated with adoring deference because.. well... she’s Hillary!

Since we're on the subject of relics, is Tipper Gore available?

Hillary could easily become the next President despite all her flaws. The GOP just has to nominate some RINO and spend the campaign trying not to do anything to offend those all important moderates. It worked so well with Bob Dole, John McCane and Mitt Romney

Fascination??? In a pig’s eye, and I love Jonah’s reading/writing about her. Hillary is an old OLD political hack. She has done nothing, she has written nothing, she has said nothing and will will DO nothing given the choice of office. The DIMS seem to think she is OWED the Office of Presidency since they won it with the (non mention) they put in there this time. Hillary has shown what a witch she is and what happens if you actually call her out. She was in charge of the State Department when our brave ones died that awful night. Hillary and the President covered it up because THEY WERE IN CHARGE, and did nothing while our brave men died.
