Unknown Republican Blocks Bill That Will Require Search Warrant Before Police Access Emails

An unknown Republican Senator is blocking a bill that will require police to obtain a search warrant before accessing emails and online messages. The Hill reported:

An anonymous Republican senator has delayed a vote on legislation that would require police to obtain a warrant before accessing emails and other online messages.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) pushed for a vote on the bill before Congress left for its August recess. He secured unanimous support from Democrats, but at least one Republican objected to the bill, according to a Democratic Senate aide.

Leahy had hoped to fast-track the bill to passage with unanimous support, but the opposition means a vote will be delayed until at least September.

Did anyone read the article Gateway Pundit links to?

http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/315339-unknown-republican-blocks-bill-requiring-warrants-for-email-searches

"Under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) of 1986, police only need a subpoena, issued without a judge's approval, to force Internet companies to turn over emails that have been opened, or that are more than 180 days old."

"Police" and who else?

"Leahy's bill would not affect the NSA programs, but it would curb the ability of local and federal law enforcement officials to access private online messages."

Keyword ECPA [FR mentioned in 2005. Only other link in 2011]:

“The fagot in the middle, of course. Mr. Primaried.”

Yup. The dems are only pushing this to force a vote. That will affect Graham’s primary. Conservatives should also want to force a vote for the same reason.

NSA reading everyone’s emails and facebook is not a popular position. Dems in committee get to vote against it for free (because it will never pass). Graham has to vote No and hurt himself against the tea party candidate.

Assuming you’re not talking about the sports writer, King isn’t a Senator. He’s not in the pool.

Darn right we know who to suspect!!! I watch the liberal media, it has to be those KKK, evil Tea Party extremist Nazis, who taken control of the Republican Party and are driving it over a cliff. And the Democrat Party concern trolls are wringing their hands that hispanics won't vote for Republicans in the future.

Am I right? Am I right? Of course, I'm right.
