Muslim woman asked to remove headscarf during bar exam in Springfield (MA)

On Wednesday and Thursday, law school graduates aspiring to practice in the Commonwealth gathered in Boston and Springfield to take the 16-hour bar exam, broken into several parts. During the morning portion of the test Thursday, recent graduate of the University of Michigan Law School Iman Abdulrazzak was handed a note from an exam proctor asking her to remove her headscarf.

As many Muslim women do, Abdulrazzak wore a hijab, covering her head and chest, during the exam held at the Western New England University School of Law.

The note, written in capitalized block letters read, "Headwear may not be worn during the examination without prior written approval. We have no record of you being given prior written approval. Please remove your headwear and place it under your seat for the afternoon session."

While "headwear including hats, scarves, caps, hoods, bandanas, visors, costume headgear or sunglasses" are prohibited from the examination room, religious headwear is permitted. "Headwear that has been granted prior approval by the Board of Bar Examiners for religious or medical reasons only," according to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners' security policy.

...

Executive Director of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners Marilyn Wellington told law news website Above The Law the issue was resolved quickly.

"This was an unfortunate miscommunication," Wellington said. "We withdrew the request that she make adjustments to her headgear, and she wore her religious garments throughout the entire testing day. The miscommunication was corrected as soon as we were made aware of it."

Though Abdulrazzak was allowed to finish the bi-annually offered exam, she remained upset. Sharing the photo on social media, she wrote in the caption, "Trying hard to control how upset I am."

If she got approval, why did she not have it in writing? Why did she not arrive early and make sure the proctor was aware before the exam? Something seems fishy here.

And there ya have it. Just like a race-baiter, she is using this as an excuse to point out how offended she is. How her rights were trampled on. How she was discriminated against and blah, blah, blah.

Boo. Fricking. Hoo.

She ended on a sarcastic note, "Fun times living in the stone age."

Well, she got that right! The mentality of the muslim ideology has never advanced or adapted since its inception.

Ooooh. Somebody was passed a note in ‘BLOCK LETTERS!’ Call the press!

I once approached a customs agent and forgot I had my hat on and was told to take it off. Perhaps I should contact the Singapore Straits Times and tell them what happened.

Ten bucks says that within a year of setting up a practice here she'll convince our Supreme Court...the same one that ruled in favor of homosexual "marriage" some years back....that our state constitution guarantees the right to wage jihad against the government and our infidel citizens.

Don’t they have a separate bar exam for Sharia law?

Is she allowed to be a lawyer in a Moslem country?

Lawyers know the importance of documentation. She should have failed for not bringing documentation of her PRIOR approval, if there was any.

The backpedaling tone of the apology is sickening. Can we possibly kiss Islamic butt any more completely?

If a Jew wore a yarmulke. or a Sikh a turban, without prior approval, what do you think the reaction would be?

The seprate Bar is a shiny metal bar brought down upside the woman’s head because it is illegal in Sharia law for a woman to do a “man’s work”....

Muslim women just can’t think without their headgear.

If she were really a Muslim they would not allow her to be educated.

TRANSLATION:

We apologize for our misguided western regulations which expect people of superior cultures, like intelligent, humane, progrssive Muslims to behave according to our cultural mores. Please feel free to expound upon future changes you would like to see addressed in our society - like banning dogs, music, alcohol, dancing, sports and statues. We, in the degnerate west, will make every effort to accomodate YOUR needs.

Should have kicked her out on her @$$.

Where in the Koran does it say the hijab is required religious garb that must be worn by women?

Who would know more about living in the stone age than a 7th century Muslim?

It is not part of their religion. It is custom.

Yeah, I noticed that.

I don't mind her making Moslems look pathetic, but she makes women look bad, too.

Remember when the president of Harvard University said that maybe there was an objective reason why more men than women were top scientists and mathemeticians, and all the women in the room got the vapors and had to be sedated? What's a sensible woman to do with people like this?

They didn’t allow hats and such when I took the bar exam. The rules are published and this woman knew them ahead of time. She feigns being upset, but this was likely intentional on her part.
