Matt Damons new sci-fi blockbuster 'Elysium' has received a deluge of criticism that it is pushing a socialist agenda - inspired by the Occupy movement - down moviegoers throats.
Set in the year 2154, Elysium imagines a world where the wealthy elite have abandoned an overcrowded Earth for a better life aboard a luxury space station.
While Earth is characterized by crime-riddled and poverty-stricken slums, the super-rich live in Elysium, an exclusive gated community in space complete with a cure for all illnesses and robots that enforce strict anti-immigration laws.
The extreme disparity between the haves and have nots in the movie bears strong parallels with the Occupy movements fight against social and economic inequality and the vilification of the one per cent.
The Hollywood Reporter has called it a politically charged flight of speculative fiction, while Newsmax has escribed it as political propaganda and 'sci-fi socialism.'
Variety said it is one of the more openly socialist political agendas of any Hollywood movie in memory, beating the drum loudly not just for universal healthcare, but for open borders, unconditional amnesty and the abolition of class distinctions as well.
The films star and renowned Hollywood liberal - Matt Damon has denied that it has an overtly political message.
'I dont think it is trying to say anything. It just presents the issue the distinct difference between the haves and the have nots, he told Fox.
The movies director Neill Blomkamp has also denied that he wanted to be a political statement and said it is unfortunate that parallels had been drawn with the Occupy movement.
But critics have rubbished their denials.

When such a thing happens HUD will start monitoring space stations for racial balance.
Rubbish
Its propagander
LOL, that IS a great comment.
It’s an aggregator site so it shows uploads to sites like putlocker and sockshare. Movies get uploaded pretty quickly and it is great for tv shoes. I basically watch tv shows now only on the internet. Another good site is megashare.info. But Megashare doesn’t get the movies as quickly as solarmovie and doesn’t have as big a collection of links.
I only watch tv on the net too...
Many from the UK, Canada, Australia.
Hour long tv shows take 41 minutes - I’m there.
And movies, seen most, haven’t bumped into a good one in months.
Damon and Company are projecting their own sins onto others. But you have to give Hollywood credit, their media is pointing out the politics.
Isnt that more like ayn rand where the capable individuals all shrugged off the moochers and went off to live in galts gulch?
The movie is a complete mess---no coherent story beyond Matt Damon's character wanting to save his own life. The bit about saving the little girl is just an appendage.
Really, its just a 'good guy' vs 'bad guy' movie and rich & powerful are typically the bad guys and the poor, downtrodden souls are the good guys. Socialism is not portrayed anywhere in the movie, in fact there is no political dialogue or component to speak of. There is a reference to "Homeland Security" (on the space station, no less) and illegal immigration (yes, local shuttles are converted to orbital capacity by clever gangs) but it doesn't amount to anything.
I went to see the visuals and wished they'd spent more time on the 'space station' which is really much more than that. It is a small version of Larry Niven's Ringworld and looks really quite cool. Also stolen from Niven is his 'autodoc' device. But of course, it is a science-free sci-fi flick and I laughed out loud at the lazy ignorance of the film maker.
The TV show was great because both the Trogs and the Cloud-dwellers were shown to be prejudiced.
After that piece of dog crap called Armageddon I decided I would never watch a Hollywood sci-fi flick again. Having to sit through that when you have a Physics degree (Master’s, at that) should warrant a refund, or perhaps even emotional distress.
Then again, after Zero took office I retired entirely from going to the movies. They haven’t suffered enough until Matt Damon is doing landscaping and Alec Baldwin is working checkout at K-Mart.
David Gerrold conceived the original story on which this episode was based, an outline called "Castle in the Sky".
He was deeply disappointed with the final script. His original concept dealt with a three-way conflict between the elite of the planet's sky city and two groups of the cave-dwelling miners - one adhering to the tenets of a pacifist, Martin Luther King-like leader, the other followers of a more militant Malcolm X-like figure. Gerrold's story ended on a deliberately ambiguous note, with the only "triumph" being that Kirk finally managed to establish a dialogue between the groups.
Gerrold later characterized the final script - in which the miners' violent actions are blamed entirely on a toxic "zenite" gas in the mines - with the scathing line,"And if we can just get them troglytes to wear gas masks, then they'll be happy little darkies and they'll pick all the cotton we need."
I watch my favorite movies and tv shows on

It is a good website. It also offers huge database of movies and t.v. shows as well.
