Coal country begs Obama for mercy as hundreds of coal plants ready for closing

Coal industry lobbyists and politicians have been urging the Obama administration to ease up on its regulatory agenda and craft carbon dioxide emission rules that would allow the coal industry to survive.

All the while, reports indicate that hundreds of coal plants are slated to be shut down in the coming years.

The unveiling of President Obama’s plan to cut carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants earlier this summer stoked the fears of coal supporters who have already been hit hard by stricter environmental regulations.

However, the industry is not going down without a fight.

Coal lobbyists met with White House officials at the end of July, the Hill newspaper reports, to ask the administration to consider a plan that would allow new coal plants to be built.

Earlier this year the Obama administration put forward rules that would have effectively banned building new coal plants, unless they utilized carbon capture technology.

“In Kentucky, coal is not just an energy source, it’s a way of life,” reads a letter from 50 Kentucky Republican and Democratic state legislators, urging Obama to reconsider new rules for carbon emissions limits. “In Kentucky alone, the loss would measure in the billions of dollars — both from declines in the industry and what are predicted to be steep increases in energy costs.”

Exactly! Many of his devotees now say Obama is not keeping his word. On the contrary, aside from a few gratuitous lies that change nothing, Obama repeatedly said what his opinion of the oil industry was and is to this day. Everybody had four long years to observe and absorb what kind of man Obama actually is. Finally they wake up and realize how bad the Health Insurance plan really is? Too late! Their fault for behaving like Union Zombies and Plantation Slaves.

...President Obama’s plan to cut carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants earlier this summer...

IIRC, all done by Executive Order

as a Clinton staffer once quipped:

(making law by) "the stroke of a pen... pretty cool."

FWIW I am convinced the last election was rigged.

This won’t just affect miners. This will cause electricity prices to skyrocket as Obama promised. I’ll be paying a lot more.

As I have been telling the ignorami on this forum for years, the primary coal producing states: Wyoming, West Virginia, and Kentucky voted for McCain/Palin and Romney/Ryan. Furthermore, western Pennsylvania also voted majority against 0bama.

Used to be. Now they are a (bunch of) ‘members’ in full standing. See McCain and Ghramm for details.

One thing actually. Knowing you have integrity. But he’d never try that.

You're right, of course.

But I was being ironic/sarcastic.

And Dictators are never Impeached. Obama is moving into the same league as Stalin and Hitler. IMO

Coal country begs Obama for mercy on mining and cola fired power plants, America is begging for mercy from the Obamacare train wreck, people every where want answers on Benghazi and the IRS, yet the republicans in congress can't get support or pass a law.

WTF?

Didn’t most of the coal industry vote for this idiot?

Well, the coal-producing states of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee voted heavily against Barack Obama in 2012.

Still, it did not seem to help...
