Fukushima's Radioactive Water Leak: What You Should Know
National Geographic ^ | 7 August, 2013 | Patrick J. Kiger

Posted on 08/11/2013 8:50:30 AM PDT by Errant

Tensions are rising in Japan over radioactive water leaking into the Pacific Ocean from Japan's crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, a breach that has defied the plant operator's effort to gain control.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday called the matter “an urgent issue” and ordered the government to step in and help in the clean-up, following an admission by Tokyo Electric Power Company that water is seeping past an underground barrier it attempted to create in the soil. The head of a Nuclear Regulatory Authority task force told Reuters the situation was an "emergency."

Thanks for the link, anyone who take a nuke reactor meltdown lightly, needs to take a look at her website.

And this is a scenario that could conceivably continue for 20-30 years in which case I suppose the site will become so flooded it will be unworkable. I have even heard suggestions the entire facility could collapse due to the soil conditions.

"So I'm guessing the prudent thing to do is stop all that Sushi crap."

Here's a partial list of what's in some of the hundreds of varieties of Sushi.....dried seaweed....raw quail eggs....eel....monkfish liver....pike conger....jelly fish....whale....sea urchin....raw shrimp....hairy crab....squid....roe ( a mass of raw fish eggs)....octopus....gonad of sea urchin....gizzard shark....dried gourd, etc. etc.

Most if not all the fish parts are raw.

So what's a little nuclear contamination permeating the oceans' fish? Sushi eaters have lead linings in their stomachs, anyhow.....and all those attractive little sushi bar appetizers won't faze them a bit.

Thanks for the update. Seems to be getting worse, not better. That’s a lot of cesium-137! Wonder how much would wind up in the pacific if it topples. The radiation from that may prevent any future work onsite.

Water is a very minor problem today . . . All the water has been evaporated or dumped into the ocean by corrupt criminal people running the show. They are like a bunch of wild monkeys. This new development is far more important to the world:

Dangerous Operation at Fukushima’s Reactor No. 4 Could Ignite “Atomic Chain Reaction” !

Re: country of origin labeling. It’d be good but won’t protect you. Japan has testing and laws banning domestic sale of contaminated foods. But those laws do not apply to export. Even if food is labelled with country of origin how can you be sure it doesn’t have contaminated ingredients, bought on the cheap, from Japan?

Nope, some FReepers are already use geiger counters when they shop.

I look for something to happen that eventually runs them offsite. Then eventually perhaps, things deteriorated to steaming, contaminate spewing mounds of extremely radioactive rubble for scores of years - God forbid any part of it goes critical from time to time.

IMO, for what that's worth, they've got to get these remaining fuel rods separated and moved offsite while they can. If the elevated fuel storage pools topple, this could slam the remaining unmelted rods together and created a catastrophe as well.

Thanks heavens I haven't been so irradiate YET that I was finally able to remember reading about years ago a special diet by a Japanese Doctor at Nagasaki after the bombing August 9, 1945.

Amazingly, some of the survivors are still alive todsy.

The diet makes sense to me now after listening to many videos featuring Pediatrician Dr. Helen Caldicott and hearing her say radioactivity concentrates the higher up the food chain. We need to eat lower on the food chain because of all the nuclear contamination. I used to think the Macrobiotoic people were out there, but not any more.

Thanks. Much of the list at the link is unavailable here, about as far as you can get from seawater on the continent. However sauerkraut and pickles are readily available, and that’ll work. I already avoid sugar as much as possible. I printed the article and will go over the diet in more detail later.

Create a cofferdam upstream in the aquifer by drilling in and injecting cement.

Divert upstream water in the aquifer with relief wells and high volume pumps. This would cut off or reduce the flow to the site underground.

Reduction might be preferable to completely stopping the flow: the core masses from the reactor(s) will need to be cooled to prevent fires. At least reduce the influx of water to a manageable level, if this hasn't been done already.

If you have a Champion juicer or a low rpm juicer you can make quickie fermented veg and kraut. This is what I do. The best value pro-biotic powders (cheaper this way) are by Jarrow and NOW foods. You can jump start you sauerkraut with a little of these
