Looks like he’s got a good location on a main drag right next door to Walgreens who probably bring in a lot of customers.

It used to be very wide spread. But then some states decided that what your employees ate was taxable income.

And that was the end of that.

They tried doing that here in Michigan when the tobacco revenue fell off the table.

Vinnie figured I could do the job by myself(which I could). After about 2 mos of doing it all plus stepping in to make pies he announced he was going to give me a .25 raise. I bought a $1000 car and got a job at a steak place.

LOL! Two people, each freely making rational choices.

How, but how, were you able to make such a life changing decision without a union boss to guide you?

Wondering how a place like this could survive in “urban” areas, where the employees are the only ones who could afford to eat there?

Then the social engineers would start whining that the owners are racist because there are no stores in the inner city...

Let the free market work!

In VAIL, CO, 15 years ago, Fast Food workers made $15-$18/hr, plus they got FREE HOUSING, and $200 end of season bonus (for staying at work). Wendys McDonalds, all of them paid this...it's probably even higher now...

This is from the comment section after the article. Cracked me up. Key word, "VAIL."

"Mommy, I want a Pepsi. It's only $25."

"Oh, sure honey. They look small. Why don't you get 2 or 3?"

After taking one sip, "Mommy, I'm not thirsty anymore."

"OK, honey, just throw the 3 drinks away."

Don't laugh. My kid went to an amusement park with a wealthy family some years ago. Their kid wanted an ice cream cone, three scoops. One lick and he threw it away. My kid was stunned.

They were nice people and the kid was nice. Just a bit spoiled.

If you hire 5 people @ $12 per hour, you are paying $60 per hour to run things.

If you hire 8 people @ $7.40 per hour, you are paying $59.20 per hour to run things.

I imagine you would have a lineup of applicants at $12 per hour, thus you can keep only the most productive workers. 5 go-getters can easily do the work of 8 average or below average workers. You can also demand more when you pay more.

Therefore, you’re likely getting the same production for approximately the same money, but you are spending wisely and are being generous to good workers who deserve it.

I’d say it’s a pretty smart move. Time will tell.

"There’s no way the market will support $12 an hour burger flippers."

A few years back minimum wage in Ohio was at 7 bucks or so and Mickey Dees in Columbus was paying over 9 bucks an hour.

It all depends on the local and the demand for the product etc. Though being in Michigan right now makes it all suspect.

My nephew makes A bit more than $8 per hour at Pizza hut.

Restaurant chains don’t have near the options that private single owner restaurants do. If you own a franchise you have to buy specific items, sell specific items, specific equipment and furnishings as well as paying for licensing.

They also deliver which is something that McDonalds doesn’t do.

Don’t know whether you’ve ever had to feed two teenaged boys, but let me tell you.... most of them can eat until the fridge is as empty as Obama’s campaign promises.

Your friend is probably saving a bit of money from her boys eating at their job, but I’m sure she’s still got to pick up the slack.

$12/hour is the starting minimum wage, not the promotional wage which a sharp manager might pay those sharp workers who prove deserving of it

McDonald's stores are franchises. Sounds like the owner(s) of one or more stores decided to buck the average rate of pay for unskilled labor in the area. Totally a decision on their part.

You never know with these things. I myself was once the highest paying contractor in my trade in Los Angeles. I paid 5% more than anyone else in town, because I wanted the best, and I wanted them to stick around. They did, and I was happy to pay extra for a job well done and the crew's loyalty.

Makes a lot of sense. Staff turnover costs money. The best employees will be a lot more efficient than the average in the labour pool. The best workers will be attracted to the highest paying businesses.

Who knows....maybe the numbers will work out for the owner. His guys are still going to have to hustle like crazy to keep him in the black.

That's my argument against minimum wage. The places who want the best workers will pay the most and increase competition among workers and among businesses for workers. Even without a minimum wage, there won't be a $3 per hour job for long. It will rise due to market forces.

That even works at Mcdonalds

Fast food?

“Why are we different? Better food, better ingredients, better process, all crafted by our carefully selected team of culinarians, sources and suppliers led by an internationally renowned chef known for better food. We enjoy producing meticulously crafted food for you because we want you to say, “this is the best I ever had”. . .”

When I hit McDonalds, I get two Double Cheeseburgers and a soda for $4. I don’t go to fast food for a burger with cheeses I’ve never heard of and lettuce I cannot pronounce.
