The Obamacare Throwdown – Let’s Not Be Gutless Wonders
Red State ^ | 8/14/2013 | Contributor Bill S.

Posted on 08/15/2013 5:31:43 AM PDT by IbJensen

Let me be blunt. If you are opposed to using the Continuing Resolution to de-fund Obamacare because you are afraid that conservatives and the GOP might take the blame in the media, then you are a political coward.

It’s as simple as that.

Now there’s a caveat here – if you have a better plan, bring it forward and convince us that you have a different idea. Thus far, all of the myriad of bills passed in the House have accomplished exactly nothing. So what’s your plan for reversing course on Obamacare? Do you have a plan? Or do you just plan to do the equivalent of crawling into a fetal position in the closet and cowering in fear?

There are a lot of folks floating around out there who prefer the fetal position plan. They moan about how we’ll take the blame and we’ll look bad and the media will beat us up and it might hurt us in 2014. I have heard a couple of people using pithy platitudes like “it’ll collapse under its own weight”. Really? Just what exactly does that mean? Do you honestly think the Democrats will simply say “Welp. It’s not working. We tried and failed. Guess we’ll just let this one drop.” I think not. If nothing else, it’ll just get worse (single-payer, anyone?).

If the media beats us up….tough. This is one place where we have to suck it up and not be gutless wonders.

Look, we won on the sequester by holding firm and not giving in. Lo and behold, nothing happened. The world didn’t come to an end, spending is down, and the only ones whining about it still are the Democrats who got their butts whupped. They are still trying – unsuccessfully – to blame us, and Barack Obama tries laughable tactics such as telling the military that he’ll end across-the-board cuts. Pretty comical, considering the sequester cuts to the military were his idea. Yet the media has moved on and I would venture to say that not a single Republican 2014 candidate will hear a word about it from anyone they care about (ie. anyone who would vote for them).

There are some on our side who think Obamacare is “settled law” and that we can’t win. They think it’s over. Prohibition was “settled law” also…and the nation passed a second Constitutional amendment to overturn it. Laws against abortion were “settled law” until the infanticide lobby managed to find Supreme Court justices who saw imaginary content in the Constitution (That fight’s not over either, by the way).

To borrow from Bluto in Animal House, “NOTHING is over until WE say it is.”

The Left thinks we will cave if they turn on the media demonization machine. And we do have a lousy track record on this, so they have reason to believe it. But Obamacare is already so damaging to this nation and its economy that this is the ONE thing that we absolutely, positively must win. The Democrats rammed this abomination through without a single GOP vote. The country hates it. The people of the US want it defunded. Jobs are clearly being lost because of it (and I have personal experience with this, by the way).

This is a must-win.

Senator Ted Cruz said it perfectly at the Redstate Gathering – we must not blink. We must de-fund it, we must stand by the de-funding plan, and we must not back down, no matter what.

Do not be a coward. Do not blink.

Republicans should stick strictly to talking about and actually defunding Obamacare. If the media asks them about shutting down the Government, they should respond by saying that Reid and Obama are the ones shutting down the central socialist government , so watch them carefully as they throw their tantrum.

Defunding begins at home.

Like charity. Like courage.

RE :”Now there’s a caveat here – if you have a better plan, bring it forward and convince us that you have a different idea.”

I do:

Step 1 :Repeal the special Obama-care handout funding that both parties in congress got Obama to give them. As long as they wont oppose this (their special O-care para-shoot) it says that they are not serious about this as they know they are all set when nothing is accomplished.

Step 2 : Stop the O-care overall funding in the Senate and quit counting on Boehner. That requires 51. Bohner is not going to be the single goat for shutting down the government just because GOP Senators who are calling for him to do it themselves failed to stop it in their own house.
It just wont happen. Fail plan. No Senate bill no budget.

On # 2 Cruz's Senate commercials (Playing on both FNC and MSNBC) should specifically say “call your ‘Senator’ and tell the to defund Obama-care’ as that ad is cited as paid for by some Senate conservative committee.

Also : Cruz's Senate commercial says NOTHING about the special o-care give-a-way that congress got Obama to give them so they are safe when nothing happens.

The problem is Boehner, the “leader” of the GOP, is already blinking through his tears.

We can NOT trust this gaggle of goofballs. They’re anxious to screw us on immigration and they’ll run like the cowards they are from this.

I have NO confidence in any of them.

"We" who? The invertebrates on Capitol Hill aren't representing "we," especially after taking the Obamacare side deal.

The repubs have no intention of defunding ocare.

Thy have given up on a repeal.

They demonstrated that when they negotiated their exemption.

They would not have gone to the trouble had they intended to defund.

Further, the exemption insured that dims who might have gone along with defunding now have no reason to vote for defunding.

Yes there are some that are sincere, but they are a small minority.

We must de-fund it, we must stand by the de-funding plan, and we must not back down, no matter what.

But deep in our conservative hearts lies the dark and foreboding reality that GOP WILL back down.

It's not enough to defund and/or repeal Obamacare, but Republicans need to propose an alternative.

How about a consumer centered and funded health care plan. Allow individual tax breaks for health insurance premiums and treatment, with refundable tax credits for the poor. Allow insurance to be purchased from any state at the level of coverage desired, ranging from full coverage to catastrophic coverage. Finally allow tax free Health Savings Accounts so people can save for increased senior health care costs.

It's great to oppose costly unworkable and unsustainable programs, but simply opposing or saying no is useless without a better solution.

Always being negative is a turnoff. Let the republican party be the party of fiscally conservative ideas.

This is exactly the point I been making.
In fact much of this noise serves to cover-up the fact that they created their own safety net from O-care.

At this time there is no better solution. The government is never a solution it is always the problem.

Stupid Republicrats who want to keep parts of a bastardized law are on the wrong side of the aisle.

This central socialist government belongs in nothing that affects our lives, our families or our fortunes. This government is the enemy of America.

Let the republican party be the party of fiscally conservative ideas.

They've been in leadership of the House since early 2011. I guess those fiscally conservative ideas will start coming down the pike any day now, right?

This central socialist government belongs in nothing that affects our lives, our families or our fortunes. This government is the enemy of America.

The people of America have willingly allowed themselves to go from citizen to slaves. They eagerly sold their birthright for a bowl of Government stew, a/k/a, freebies, a/k/a "benefits".

They exchanged the responsibilities of freedom for the shackles of slavery.

Thanks for this thoughtful thread.

________

The basic conflict is between those who want Liberty and those who want Totalitarianism.

For over a century various names have been applied by the advocates of Totalitarianism to their groups such as “Progressive,” “Socialist,” and “Communist.”

All such names are based on the King-Slave Style of governance.

The last King-Slave System practiced in America was the Plantation System which ended in a horrific Civil War, and consequences that we are still recovering from today.

Currently, the King-Slave Model has been sold to America as a “Safety Net,” and eagerly embraced by the “47 % “ who pay no person homage to their King.

The 53 % are being led by Republicans who are afraid of opposing the King.

Hence, we have a watershed position in time rapidly approaching where we, the 53 % who pay our personal Federal Income Taxes, must choose between changing the Leaders of the Republican Party, or continue to financially support these same cowardly “leaders.”

Partial Government control is Socialism.

There is partial Liberty with Socialism.

Total Government control is Communism.

There is no Liberty with Communism.

Conservatives are dedicated to conserving Liberty.

The Federal politicians who support whole or partial Government control are either Socialists or Communists.

Conservatives should not donate money or time to these Socialists or Communists.

Will you LEAD, follow, or get out of the way?

Our sorry Democrats and RINOs in Congress have chosen to follow as America continues to not oppose “The Man” in “The Big House” at 1600 Plantation Avenue, in the District of Corruption.

What say all of you?

I think Obamacare implodes. The Dems may be hoping that the Republicans save them.

The only plan that is politically viable is to let Obamacare happen.

When it inevitably becomes a nightmare trainwreck, then there will be a constituency for repeal and true reform of the insurance market (tort reform and true insurance).

The more we obstruct, the more excuses we give the Democrats about why we are to blame for it not working.

Those fiscally conservative ideas will not happen with the current crop of establishment (RINO)Republicans in power. They fear Obama and his progressive minions and are focused primarily in staying in office, not taking measures to straighten out our economy. Sadly they tend to go wherever the MSM wind blows them.

We need more Tea Party conservatives.
