One credible foreign journalist, known in the region who reports for the BBC and for AP in the region, and fluent in the dialects there in Syria, went into Damascus at the site of the incident and found rebel foot soldier who said that it was a botched attack attempt by them where their chemical weapons detonated prematurely. Either way, whichever side did it, it is still not a reason for us to involve the US military.

It's times like this that I'm so thankful you're a freeper. Jeff - thanks for sharing...

...a Chinese landing craft, the Jinggangshan, with a 1,000-strong marine battalion had reached the Red Sea en route for the Mediterranean off Syria. According to DEBKAfile, Beijing has already deployed a number of warships opposite Syria in secret. If the latest report is confirmed, this will be the largest Chinese deployment in the Middle East in its naval history.

Thanks for sharing...

Yep, the USN cruiser Vincennes misidentified an Iranian Airbus with like 300 pax on board as an Iranian F-14, and blew it out of the sky.

So imagine how hard it is to correctly identify what type of missile a Russian warship might be firing, and the compressed decision times.

Not credible. China can’t deploy warships from the South China Sea to the Eastern Med “unnoticed.”

UFOs are more credible.

Read that first link. They have a panned exercise for the Kuznetsov to Syria in December. They have not changed those plans. The Kuznetsov is not there now.

No. Again. Read your link. The Cruiser is the Moskva, and that report is over a week old and well known,. The Moskva is the SLAVA class cruiser I have already mentioned.

It’s amazing how fast our (politicized) intel services can conclude that Assad launched sarin gas, when a year after Benghazi they still don’t know nuttin’ about nuttin.’

There are so many ways these “limited” air attacks can go wrong. I think Obama will order these $$ Tomahawks to explode in the desert. Too much risk that somebody might intentionally place chemical warheads at the location of potential missile strikes. Any deaths caused by a release of chems after our missile strikes will be 100% blamed on the USA. That’s just one bad outcome possible.

Another is another “Vincennes” type error, but this time, it might end up with Russian and American warships on fire or sinking.

Quote:”Earlier this year a Russian naval officer told Interfax that the Navy had decided to end the Admiral Kuznetsov’s scheduled maintenance early and deploy it on a mission that would include a stopover in the Mediterranean Sea, where Russia has established a permanent naval task force in response to the hostilities in the Middle East. That report did not specify whether it deployed to the Tartus military base in Syria, although speculation abounded.”

Note “end the scheduled maintenance EARLY” is a code word for that unit to scramble. The press is always filled with 1/2 truths so far as the deployment of military units are concerned. We do it and other nations do too. Never take these reports at face value. One of the main reason Congress and our allies is against the Syrian action is the danger of the rapidly growing Russian deployment in the Mediterranean. This is a very dangerous situation that we can get our fannies kicked badly in.

The Moskva has been there for quite awhile now. Since May.

That reports is from the Reporter Dale Gavik whop worked with Yahya Ababneh on the ground in Ghouta who spoke directly with the rebels, their family members, victims of the chemical weapons attacks and local residents. >p>
August 30, 2013 | 16:51

Syrian rebels admitted in a report by Dale Gavlak, a Middle East correspondent who has worked for the Associated Press, the Israeli Times, and Mint Press News, that they were responsible for last week’s chemical attack.

“From numerous interviews with doctors, Ghouta residents, rebel fighters and their families….many believe that certain rebels received chemical weapons via the Saudi intelligence chief, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, and were responsible for the (deadly) gas attack,” he writes in the article.

The rebels noted it was a result of an accident caused by rebels mishandling chemical weapons provided to them.

“My son came to me two weeks ago asking what I thought the weapons were that he had been asked to carry,” said Abu Abdel-Moneim, the father of a rebel fighting to unseat Assad, who lives in Ghouta.

This reports has been carried in Europe, Russia and the Mid-East, but barely mentioned here by the MSM.

Now, the Obama administration says that they, "do not believe the rebels have the capacity to carry out such an attack."

Oh no, then I guess they have missed these videos from the rebels themselves. The blue weapo0ns loaded on the Howitzer are chemical weapon shells.

Sorry, Darth, the Moskva is a newer development,. The original Med Squadron the Russians created earlier this year for a permanent squadron in the Med included a Udaloy class DDG, two frigates, a supply vessel, and two Amphibious vessels. Another Udaloy and the Moskva recently were dispatched as a result of this crisis specifically.

The Moskva coming from a deployment in the Atlantic and the other Udaloy from the Black Sea.

Disagreements aside, the Pacific fleet is out on maneuvers and there are rumours they could be coming...but they would have to pass the US carrier groups in the Arabian Sea, and would take 10-14 days to arrive. the Kuznetsov is due to deploy to the Med in December.

No Jeff they and other units are on their way now to the developing hot spot. Remember there is a certain amount of disinformation that goes on concerning military movements.

Cruise missiles will not be intercepted with S-300. Shooting down cruise missile is not difficult, due to low speed and low altitude terrain hugging. Out of 1000 or so fired, a ....load was shot down by Serbian army in 1999. Without radars.

Especially at night. AAA crews wear dark shades (like welders) and can see gleaming light of cruise missile's engine approaching.

Cruise missiles were intended to deliver nuclear payload, not conventional one. It's 40 years old technology and GPS spoofers went a long way since then. Syria has a lot of sparse populated areas so they can use GPS spoofers, unlike densely populated Serbia.

Depletion of cruise missile stock weakens U.S. capability to deliver tactical nuclear payload when it may be needed. Indiscriminate use is one of the ways how democrats destroy U.S. warfighting capability.

“This wasn’t even a situation like Libya, where, you know, you’ve got troops rolling towards Benghazi and you have a concern about time, in terms of saving somebody right away.”

Really? O said this? Trying to sneak in some spin??

Yeah, right, troops rolling in, and Obama so worried if they would make it there in time.

Why spend money on unbelievable magic shows in Vegas when you can watch Obama fool the American people with no subterfuge every day right from your couch?

Just how nucking futz is Obama, and will anyone in the General Staff tell him NO, and that he is UNDER ARREST?

Or will we all burn?

And then they will show him two guys in white scrubs who will put him in a straight jacket and then take him to a white ambulance and take him off to the asylum. I fear this is the only thin that would save us. I keep thinking of Pat Frank's 1959 novel, "Alas Babylon" where WWIII started over Syria where a hotshot carrier pilot crossed the "no go line" while chasing a MiG. As they get over Syria, the pilot fires a sidewinder where the sensors picks up the heat from a steam locomotive pulling a Soviet troop train and after that WWIII ensues.
