Undocumented LA County Parents On Pace To Receive $650M In Welfare Benefits
CBS Los Angeles ^ | 9/16/2013

A projected $650 million in welfare benefits will be distributed to illegal alien parents in 2013, county officials said Monday.

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced the latest figures from the Department of Public Social Services, which showed more than $376 million in CalWORKs benefits and food stamps combined have been distributed through July to illegal alien parents for their native-born children.

Approximately $54 million in welfare payments are issued each month, consisting of nearly $20 million in CalWORKs and $34 million in food stamp issuances, according to the data.

An estimated 100,000 children of 60,000 undocumented parents receive aid in Los Angeles County, according to Antonovich, who said this year’s projections — up about $1 million from the nearly $53 million in total benefits issued in July 2012 — underscore the economic impact of the nation’s immigration debate.

“When you add the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year,” Antonovich said in a statement. “These costs do not even include the hundreds of millions of dollars spent annually for education.”

“Sure am glad that illegals don’t suck money from the economy./s”

I hate living in a country where our politicians get away with saying that with a straight face. Also, the attempts to argue that they don’t drive down wages. “Black America” has borne much of the brunt of the illegal invasion, but it has spread beyond that; now Spanish is required for many jobs Americans had done in the past (supermarket cashier, waiter/waitress, bank teller) to accommodate the invaders.

Really glad taxpayers don’t need that money for their own families.

But they pay taxes. When they fill up the cars they are driving illegally they pay gas tax. When they buy Coronas and beans they pay sales tax, when taxpayers pay their rent the landlord pays property tax, I am also sure their boss takes out SS and other taxes from their cash payments. So can’t we all get along? They are just here to cash in on the American dream. (at tax payer expense)

What makes this even worse: California has exercised a waiver allowed by HHS. That waiver allows California to not count the income of the illegal parent(s) in determining the amount of benefit to the child. However, if the parents are American citizens, all of their income is counted in determining eligibility. So, all other things being equal, the illegal family gets a more generous benefit than the family of citizens. This has been going on since Clinton. All other states, with the exception of eight, have exercised the same waiver. This allows California and other states that take "advantage" of the waiver to, in effect, provide benefits to adult illegals who are otherwise not eligible for them.

How does this work? Say you have a family of four: legal mother, illegal father, two citizen children. Only the mother's income is counted when they determine eligibility. So the father's income goes unreported, the family is perceived to be "poorer" than it actually is, and father's earnings are not factored into the amount of welfare and food stamps the family receives.

I think it might be more accurate to say our nation has degenerated into a foreign country.

Without welfare and other government handouts these illegal aliens would not make enough money to survive here. “Our” government is paying illegal aliens to colonize the land, to come here, to raise families, to establish roots but not to assimilate in anyway. White American taxpayers are paying for their cultural and demographic replacement.

True. Somehow, I got it in my mind that when I go to work, it’s to support MY family, NOT illegals’ families. What was I thinking?

They get a work ID number which doesn't require a SS. Then they may go and file false tax returns to get tens of thousands in refunds from the IRS.

Non-residents should maybe get food stamps for 6 months then zero other help. If they can't make 125% of the poverty line, then they need to be helped to leave and go back to where they came from.

I understand that they rather be poor here than be poor where they came from because of our welfare system, but we really have to balance budgets, collect taxes from these people and give them the boot for not being self sustaining.

Well, they need to stop the child credit at ZERO for refunds. Don't make 20k checks out to illegals.
Don't fund their family growth.

Many are nice, but all are here because they couldn't have families and be given stuff back where they come from..

Sue the hell out of the people who hire them and remove the great society carrot from the stick.
