I don’t know any adult who doesn’t have a photo i.d.

Are they going to produce someone who as an adult is unable to get a photo i.d.???

Up until the 1980s....I would say that only sixty percent of the US population had a photo ID of some type. The arrival of digital equipment, more state funds for ID hardware, and tens of thousands of regulation which now requires an ID....has changed things.

I’d take a humble guess that across the entire US today...there’s probably around 250,000 US citizens (not aliens), who probably have no photo ID at all. Good statistics....considering three hundred million. The chief cause? Folks in permanent facilities (mental or old folks homes), folks who live in primitive surroundings, and folks who live in the inner cities (like Memphis, Atlanta, etc) and they never ever leave their six-square block area.

Most states would readily agree to provide a state license-type ID for free....if you meant the right conditions.

So then you come to modern society. We are required to show an ID now when picking up prescription drugs, registering a car, cashing a check, buying booze, and probably forty other regular actions. You have no choice. You even need the ID now in most states to get your marriage license.

These groups (the Hispanic groups, and the NAACP)....would have a valid case in 1980. They could make this simple and the court would readily agree. Time has moved on. We live in a different age, and have made mandatory ID a requirement for a vast number of actions. To pretend we are still in the 1980s....kinda identifies your movement as “dinosaur-like”.

If I stood up in the court to face them and the judge....I’d make this awful simple. Either mandatory ID is stupid for the forty-odd actions we already require it, and thus we get rid of it entirely. Or, admit that we’ve already crossed one bridge, burnt it down....and have no choices left but to agree to an ID society. It’s a simple argument, if you think about it.
