To understand why so many conservatives in Congress are willing to risk a government shutdown in their quest to cut spending and derail "Obamacare," take a look at Indiana and the state's crop of young Republicans in the U.S. House Representatives.
The congressional delegation sprouted up from a Midwestern state whose Republican governor and legislature spent much of the last eight years making painful budget cuts, including hundreds of millions of dollars to education, to wipe out deficits.
First elected in 2010 and 2012, the Indiana Republicans personify the party's younger, harder-line vanguard that has been willing to challenge House Speaker John Boehner's leadership in a quest for smaller government.

The only way the Republicans can separate themselves from the ObamaCare disaster is to fight the fight, right now.
If they pretend that those 40 votes to kill ObamaCare when they had no power to do it were important and then roll over and vote to fund ObamaCare now, the Republicans will have this coming disaster hanging around their necks when the system collapses...and we all know it was specifically created to collapse.
If the “moderates” cave and fund this, when ObamaCare falls apart Obama and the Democrats will say, “when you had the power to stop this you voluntarily funded it...without a fight. So you’re just as guilty for this disaster as we are!”.
Fight this fight Republicans, and fight it to the death...or don’t expect any support from your base in 2014.
The truth is that if the constituency of a Congressional Seat wants their Representative to be a rebel; to say no to House Leadership; tell Dictator Obama that our answer to everything he wants, needs and desires is a big HELL NO!; there is nothing the opposition, our own side can do about.
Yep, there can be plenty of roadblocks - bad committee assignments, no pork, even mudslinging and opposition research by the President’s media ghouls —— but none of that matters if this Representative stays true to the wishes of his constituents. It is the wolf’s bane of real politics.
Personally, I don’t give a rat’s damn if my Congressman doesn’t get a good committee assignment, gets no pork or ever gets a ‘bill’ up to vote. All I want him to do right now and until Obama leaves is say HELL NO TYRANT!!!
Happy to say Messer is my Rep. I’ve called multiple times about this and they are always supportive.
I also let them know that, even though Boehner is supporting this now, he was pushed into it and expects it to come back to the house DOA. I let him know that I support replacing Boehner as speaker.
Well they haven't stopped buying sports cars for their police officers yet.
My view is simple — if you fund it, you own it.

Thank you for contacting me regarding my efforts to delay implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010.
I share your goal of achieving a repeal of the President’s disastrous health care law. In fact, one of the main reasons I sought to return to the Senate in 2010 is to seek a repeal of the law. Since 2011, I have voted over two dozen times to repeal, defund or strip away the law.
While I have supported previous efforts to defund the law, I remain concerned that efforts that lead to shutting down the federal government would have a devastating impact on Hoosiers. Furthermore, the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service has stated that a failure to pass appropriations bills would not prevent implementation of the health care law, since the majority of the law is considered mandatory spending (like Social Security) and thus largely unaffected by a government shutdown.
As a result, I am preparing to introduce legislation that will postpone implementation of both the law’s employer mandate and its individual mandate until January 1, 2015. This measure is identical to legislation (H.R. 2668) introduced by Representative Todd Young of Indiana, which passed the House of Representatives on July 17, 2013 , by a vote of 251-174.
I believe that by delaying implementation of the health care law until 2015, the decision on repealing the law will be returned to the American voters. We now know the law is driving up premiums, forcing businesses to cut workers’ jobs or hours and requiring some families to switch plans. As individuals, families and businesses are learning more about these devastating impacts, they deserve the chance to decide whether they want to continue under the same congressional leadership that passed the law or if they want to seek leaders that will fully repeal it and replace it with more effective, consumer-driven solutions.
While we may disagree on the best tactics to achieve a repeal of the health care law, we share the same end goal and I will continue fighting to replace the health care law with reforms that put individuals in charge of their own health care decisions rather than bureaucrats in Washington .
