Lots of Jewish people are liberal.
A lot more would be conservative, if “being conservative” wasn’t so easily conflated with “covert or die” Christianity of near history.
I don’t see that US conservatives (the real ones) ever engaged in that kind of behavior. The Americans that did were typically voters of the Democrat Party, remember.
Please offer some examples of “convert or die” Christianity - and how would such a thing be remotely related to being conservative?
I am genuinely puzzled.
For at least the last hundred years, the convert or die method of evangelism has only been used by Muslims, taoists, and atheists.
For some reason the idea that Christians are monsters has occupied traditional Jewish thought for centuries.
It’s the traditional Jewish allergy to Christian theology which has, I must conclude, produced the very selective attention that traditional Jewish thought has paid to Christian affairs. Christians doing what Jesus Christ actually said to do to Jews and to all mankind, i.e. lavish love upon them, get dropped in the memory hole in traditional Jewish history. But pogroms, which needless to say are intensely disobedient to the New Testament, are never forgotten.
Part of it could also be that Christians actually being Christians, showing the gospel agape love, have steered Jews into being Christians too, and those Jews no longer speak ill of Christian faith. Whoever was left, those are the people who carried on the accounts of who Christians were.
The gospel is real and its blessings are real. The gospel is a stumbling block to Jews because it proclaims that God is more than Jews envisioned Him to be.
A lot more would be conservative, if being conservative wasnt so easily conflated with covert or die Christianity of near history.
Conservatism has never been conflated with "convert or die 'chrstianity'" in the United States of America. Never. Islam, however, still apparently believes in "convert or die," yet this doesn't keep people like Abe Foxman from looking at moslems as allies in the war against Those Awful Rednecks--the one and only enemy that has ever existed or ever shall exist.
Judaism isn't conventionally proselytary, but it does teach that it is a Jewish duty to compel (that's the word I've seen quoted) all the nations of the earth to accept the Noachide Laws. Should that be classified as "fascist religious fanaticism?" Do you know how much better off we'd all be if Torah Jews were more visible and aggressive in making this known to the world?
