In a startling development in Virginias race for governor, a just-completed Newsmax/Zogby survey shows Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Ken Cuccinelli in a virtual dead heat.
The new John Zogby poll, conducted for Newsmax among likely Virginia voters from September 27-29, shows McAuliffe, the former Democratic Party national chairman, leading state Attorney General Cuccinelli by a wafer-thin margin of 32.5 percent to 32.4 percent.
According to Zogby, 10.8 percent of voters prefer another candidate and a strong 24.3 percent are undecided.
One possible stumbling block for Cuccinelli is the strength of the third candidate, Libertarian nominee Robert Sarvis.

That statement shows that you know nothing about the Libertarian candidate. He grew up in a Republican family, was the founder of the Journal of Law and Liberty at NYU Law, and is in favor of less government rather than more (and especially less cronyism in government).
I'm always suspicious of third-party dark-horses who run in high-profile, high-stakes, races.

I hope that's the case. Someone recently signed up here to push Sarvis, who is pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, and anti-gun.
Sarvis is also on record saying that he will fight for “marriage equality” in Virginia. He told Huffington Post that he has many “gay” friends, and they should be able to marry because they would be a, quote, credit to the institution.
I suspect McAuliffe was never really ahead to begin with.
Just another example of liberal mind games by the Wash.Post.
They have meddled in Virginia races before in an effort to throw them to the DemonRATS.
Exactly.
Anti-gun? I hadn’t heard that; what in particular is he advocating?
To be somewhat hyperbolic for convenience, he views McAuliffe as corrupt, and Cuccinelli as a bigot, so it is rather unlikely he'll drop out of the race in favor of either.
I support gun rights and the Second Amendment.
My view is this: Proponents of restricting our freedoms bear the heavy burden of showing the necessity, propriety, and wisdom of their proposed regulations. Yet gun-control measures have repeatedly failed to reduce violent crime or criminals' access to guns. Instead, they burden law-abiding gun-owners and prospective gun-owners.
Gun violence and violent crimes have declined dramatically over the last two decades. If we want to reduce gun violence and violent crime further, the first place to look is our drug laws. Drug prohibition, like alcohol prohibition before it, has produced well-financed, well-armed, violent criminal enterprises. Before we even think about burdening our law-abiding gun-owners with further regulations, we should end the drug war.
I also object to the Republican Party's attempts to get the information of all concealed-carry permit holders in Virginia. Republicans claim to be in favor of freedom, gun rights, and privacy, but this once again shows that the GOP's self-interest comes before the rights of the people.
Yeah, he really sounds like an Obama mini-mao there, doesn't he ...
I don’t mind admitting it when I’m wrong, and I was wrong about Sarvis’ gun rights platform. So thanks for the correction. I won’t claim that he is anti-gun in future.
However, that doesn’t make him more acceptable for my state.
According to the Richmond-Times Dispatch, he believes global warming is real, and that humans cause it. He would tax carbon emissions to combat the “problem.”
As far as sodomite marriage goes, Sarvis has said that he would “lead the fight for marriage equality” in Virginia. The perverted little slimeball said that the state slogan, “Virginia is for lovers”, should apply to all lovers. So, no...he can be as pro-gun as the NRA, but he can keep his leftwing queer-loving views the hell out of my state government.
Sarvis believes Cuccinelli is a bigot, huh? Who cares? That’s just more leftwing racebaiting. Sarvis can’t seem to get over the fact that he’s married to a black woman; like most of his ilk, I’m sure he’s greatly impressed with his own tolerance....so much so that he made it part of his campaign slogan. Well, I don’t care if he’s married to a Martian, and he can keep his racebaiting garbage to himself.
ping
and the EPA, too!
Cooch is the only proven pro-Constitution candidate for Governor of the Commonwealth. He lead the suit against ACA but unfortunately Chief Justice Roberts had a different idea.
You are right, Terry Mac can call in the chips for money. At the last report, I believe that only 27% of his $18.5 million has come from inside the Commonwealth. Of course Hillary and others have held nice fund raising events for him.
