Government Shutdown
http://forbes.house.gov ^ | Congressman Randy Forbes

Posted on 10/01/2013 11:20:22 AM PDT by Maelstorm

Sometimes the morning after the game, it becomes clear that neither team played well the night before. That’s the way many Americans must feel as they review the actions of Congress. Unfortunately, this is not a game and the poor play of both political parties is impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Last night I voted to support the third measure in 11 days to provide stopgap funding for the federal government. This measure required the President, Vice President, and political appointees to join Members of Congress and all congressional staff in obtaining health insurance through the health care exchanges and eliminated any employer contribution to the health insurance plan these individuals would be required to purchase. This measure was not adopted by the Senate, and subsequently Congress’ failure to pass a stopgap spending plan has triggered the first government shutdown in 17 years.

This morning, the Senate voted 54-46 to reject a motion to go to conference with the House to negotiate differences in the legislative proposals, marking the third time in 24 hours the Senate has rejected an overture from the House related to avoiding a government shutdown.

As Americans, we must fight to return reason and analysis to the process of governing and once again find a way to talk with one another to find the common ground necessary to rebuild our national defense, restore our fiscal integrity, and return stability to our Nation. I'm committed to working with any Member of Congress towards these ends.

Washington is full of those who talk a lot and say a little. As our nation enters into a government shutdown, I want you to know where I stand --- and I want to know where you stand.

Your Voice

While nonessential congressional staff members in my office have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown, our offices will be open and staffed with essential employees whose responsibility is to ensure constituents have a voice in the legislative process.

We want to hear from you. Our phones are on 7am - 7pm until Congress resolves the funding impasse.

Exactly. They are trying to fund the Government but the Democrat Senate won’t do it.

I wish someone would be the party of “No electricity, water, or cable in the White House until a budget is passed”.

Forcing Barry to live like his half brother?? Sounds about right.

Where DO you stand, Randy?

I read your several paragraphs of high-sounding self-promotional yadda yadda and I STILL can’t tell. Your position seems to be vague mush.

That is BS and sounds like jealousy not conservatism. I am a government employee, I am also a 31 year veteran. I do not make six figures and I have felt the pain. I am also looking at being unemployed due to budget cut in about six months, I have been furloughed so the pain you wish on me will also be shared amongst my wife and children. Conservatism is about responsibility and self reliance. If you have a graduate degree and 20+ years of experience in the military, you are welcome to try for one of the open positions in my field. If not, stop hating.

It is a shame that fine Americans like yourself have to suffer while demonic entities like valerie jarret and david axlerod flourish. Whether we like it or not... either America gets its spending addiction under control or we all go down in flames. There is no “easy way” when you owe 17 Trillion Dollars and unfunded liabilities over the next two decades are running into the hundreds of Trillions. Food stamps will cost us 12 Trillion Dollars over the next 10 years... if we do not control just that one program. There are no quick, easy or painless fixes. We are all going to be feeling a bunch of pain.

So you’re good with spending your country into oblivion as long as you get yours?

Has the D.C. water and power company shut off services to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue yet?

Just asking......there’s a shutdown of non-essential services going on you know.

Its called a job and you are damn right. I work hard for my money and you sound more like a jealous liberal than a conservative. Since when do conservatives have income envy. I spent years building the resume that got me this job. I am willing to bet you do not know the difference between a GS, WG WS or NAF. When was the last time you walked on a major military installation, you think all those troops fix the infrastructure, run the stores, clean the floors. We are a city, and it takes people to keep the infrastructure working so the troops can train for war. As a further evidence of your ignorance on these matters, I am actually paid by profits, not your tax dollars. Part of the base is run as a private cooperation, I am paid out of the profits. Every 2 years, after a profit analysis, I find out if I will be employed for a couple more years.

Calm down. You’re entitled to your opinion, but you should dial the bitterness down a bit. I’ve been a Dept of Defense contractor for 35 years so keep your preachy holier-than-thou attitude to yourself.

Whiner.
