Sometimes the morning after the game, it becomes clear that neither team played well the night before. Thats the way many Americans must feel as they review the actions of Congress. Unfortunately, this is not a game and the poor play of both political parties is impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
Last night I voted to support the third measure in 11 days to provide stopgap funding for the federal government. This measure required the President, Vice President, and political appointees to join Members of Congress and all congressional staff in obtaining health insurance through the health care exchanges and eliminated any employer contribution to the health insurance plan these individuals would be required to purchase. This measure was not adopted by the Senate, and subsequently Congress failure to pass a stopgap spending plan has triggered the first government shutdown in 17 years.
This morning, the Senate voted 54-46 to reject a motion to go to conference with the House to negotiate differences in the legislative proposals, marking the third time in 24 hours the Senate has rejected an overture from the House related to avoiding a government shutdown.
As Americans, we must fight to return reason and analysis to the process of governing and once again find a way to talk with one another to find the common ground necessary to rebuild our national defense, restore our fiscal integrity, and return stability to our Nation. I'm committed to working with any Member of Congress towards these ends.
Washington is full of those who talk a lot and say a little. As our nation enters into a government shutdown, I want you to know where I stand --- and I want to know where you stand.
Your Voice
While nonessential congressional staff members in my office have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown, our offices will be open and staffed with essential employees whose responsibility is to ensure constituents have a voice in the legislative process.
We want to hear from you. Our phones are on 7am - 7pm until Congress resolves the funding impasse.

I thought that the republicans were the party of NO, sounds like role reversal.
Exactly. They are trying to fund the Government but the Democrat Senate won’t do it.
I wish someone would be the party of “No electricity, water, or cable in the White House until a budget is passed”.
Don’t care. Let GOVERNMENT employees feel the pain PRIVATE SECTOR employees feel ALL THE TIME.
“I want to know where you stand”
GET OUT OF MY DOCTOR’S OFFICE!
Grow a pair Randy and stop getting your panties all damp. You did the right thing, now stand up for what you did.
No reopening of dot.gov until Obamacare is DEFUNDED!
Forcing Barry to live like his half brother?? Sounds about right.
>> I want you to know where I stand
Where DO you stand, Randy?
I read your several paragraphs of high-sounding self-promotional yadda yadda and I STILL can’t tell. Your position seems to be vague mush.
That is BS and sounds like jealousy not conservatism. I am a government employee, I am also a 31 year veteran. I do not make six figures and I have felt the pain. I am also looking at being unemployed due to budget cut in about six months, I have been furloughed so the pain you wish on me will also be shared amongst my wife and children. Conservatism is about responsibility and self reliance. If you have a graduate degree and 20+ years of experience in the military, you are welcome to try for one of the open positions in my field. If not, stop hating.
So you’re good with spending your country into oblivion as long as you get yours?
Has the D.C. water and power company shut off services to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue yet?
Just asking......there’s a shutdown of non-essential services going on you know.
Calm down. You’re entitled to your opinion, but you should dial the bitterness down a bit. I’ve been a Dept of Defense contractor for 35 years so keep your preachy holier-than-thou attitude to yourself.
Whiner.
