WH official: ‘Doesn’t really matter to us’ how long shutdown lasts

Posted By Vince Coglianese On 9:04 AM 10/04/2013 In Politics | No Comments

The White House reportedly doesn’t care how long the government shutdown continues because President Obama is “winning” the political fight.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, an unnamed “senior administration official” revealed that the White House is more interested in a political win than getting the government reopened:

Said a senior administration official: “We are winning…It doesn’t really matter to us” how long the shutdown lasts “because what matters is the end result.”

White House allies, however, say a long shutdown could make the White House’s position less tenable. Mr. Obama is the most visible symbol of the U.S. government, they say, and will inevitably share in the blame as hardships mount and people weary of the infighting.

Good -- then let's make it permanent.

They are NOT winning.

I agree with that and hope the GOP leadership recognizes the truth of it as well.

Personally I’m counting on the disastrously low Obamacare enrollment figures to encourage and support this view. And I think it will once it really sinks in that the Dems are losing the real referendum on Obamacare -where the votes are cast by actually enrolling in Obamacare..

I agree with the White House too. Keep it shut sown. If the government reopens, for any reason, I consider it a loss for the GOP.

Yes, I understand that. But deciding to close down parks and memorials is a choice, it’s not automatic.

The Only Solution - Make Obamacare for DEMOCRATS ONLY. Exempt all Republicans, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, etc...Why not? Why not.

There’s a definition of “winning” being used in DC that recalls that of Charlie Sheen

Ted Cruz said today that, while it went almost unreported by he media, both the House and Senate passed a bill to fund the active duty military this week. I assume the president signed this.

Yet the GOP has passed other measures to fund “National Guard and Reserve salaries, veterans’ services, lifesaving medicine and cures, and national parks and museums” and the Senate has rejected those.

When the Senate and president play ball, the government agencies reopen. When they don’t they stay shut. So how in the world can they not be blamed for these other departments remaining shut down?

Doesn’t make sense. The main problem with Obamacare is trillions of dollars in subsidies that appear to have little hope of ever being paid for and thus will just add to the debt. There’s no way to make registered Democrats alone responsible for paying off that debt. But it’s a nice thought.

This is why the House needs to be FLOODING the Senate with CRs under Regular Order to reopent different pieces of the government.

Throw so many at the Senate, and so fast, that Dingy Harry can’t keep up with the need to vote them down.

THEN start running ads. Telling people to call the White House and demand the president lean on his fellow Democrat and ally to start saying yes.

Don’t believe it. The Dem base relies on Fed. funds much more than the R base. They’re bluffing. Keep it shut, don’t raise the debt ceiling, stop SS, Medicaid, Defense payments, or default on the debt and embrace 20%+ interest rates. In all cases the Dem base is hardest hit.

So is O-care really worth all that? Well, is it punk?

Mark Levin, warning Obama (backers) may bypass role of congress and raise debt limit anyway. He keeps using the word default in speeches, recently met with bankers plotting next step (paraphrase)

That’s what was wrong with this strategy to begin with - it relied on 0bama acting in the best interests of the country. They’re waiting for a death they can try to link to the shutdown to blame the GOP.

“Why do Democrats want little girls with cancer to die?”

And by sending bills to piecemeal pay for the government to stay open that death can be blamed on the heartless harry ried. Would be a great add with the interview he did.
