Boehner: Reid Wants 'Complete' GOP Surrender

Appearing the October 6th airing of This Week With George Stephanopoulos, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) wants "complete surrender" by the GOP as a prerequisite for meaningful negotiations.

After, Stephanopoulos said, "Reid said he is more than willing to have a conference, more than willing to have a negotiation, but not under the threat of a government shutdown."

Boehner responded: "So it's 'my way or the highway,' that's what [Reid] is saying. Complete surrender, and then we'll talk to you."

Boehner added: "It's about having a conversation. I gave the Senate Majority Leader some advice at the White House about how to proceed. I gave him some advice over a week ago... And yet, they refuse to do it."

What exactly is the point of this shutdown now that they’ve voted to make this a PAID vacation for non-essential federal workers? I was on board until they did that.

So we’ve got some lazy federal workers sitting at home watching tv knowing full well that Congress is going to pay them for it.

What is the point?

We shouldn’t negotiate with red diaper babies. We should prosecute them, ridicule them, or both.

From the Republican side, the point is to remove any sympathy that may have been directed toward the federal employees. And, thereby, keep the focus on Obamacare.

Remember that, in this confrontation, the federal employees aren't the enemy -- it's the administration and the Democrat Senate. And their "plight" shouldn't be an issue -- that belongs solely to Obamacare.

The Democrats passed their communist health care without one single Republican vote, and even had to buy some votes (for example, the “Cornhusker Kickback”) and bully for others, then passed the final version into law in a sneaky manner, necessitated by the special election of Scott Brown, using the filibuster-proof “reconciliation process”.

In other words, the rats used every weapon at their disposal to force Mengelecare down America’s throat.

And now the rats and their newsroom allies are upset that a (twice: 2010 & 2012) duly-elected GOP House is using the one weapon it has at its disposal to try to undo the damage Obamacare is doing to the nation?? Gimme a freaking break. Tip of the hat to John Boehner for standing up, and likewise to the rest of the House Republicans for sucking it up and getting unified. Frankly, I’m a little surprised, but happily so.

So, one “worker” sits at home. When he goes back to work he’ll get paid for not working.

Then you have some rangers working for no pay. When they go back to work will they get double pay? Paid for the hours they worked PLUS for the hours they didn’t work? I mean, it’s got to be fair to everyone. Obamacare doesn’t but....

Eh, maybe it’s just me, but I wasn’t shedding any tears over some guy who probably spends his days surfing the internet at the Department of Commerce having to deal with reality most of us face, if only for a few weeks.

Now, that guy has a sweeter deal than he normally has. He can go on a vacation, do whatever he wants, and he gets his normal salary. And he’s non-essential, so no one will really miss him.

Yes. We owe them NOTHING.

I assume, then, that you were not around for the Great Government Shutdown of 1995 -- when the MSM ran story after story about poor, betrayed federal workers who had been deprived of their paychecks at Christmastime.

That narrative played a large role in turning public opinion against Newt & The Boys.

Paying the federal employees is a good political idea. It keeps them from being a distraction from the major issue -- Obamacare. Which is a winning issue for us.

The House already funded the gov’t without CommieCare before the back pay bill. So the workers would be paid if the Rats didn’t throw a fit. Dingy and The Clown own the shutdown. Federal workers are a side show that has been closed down. No one has any sympathy for them anyway. The threat is CommieCare. No distractions. The ‘Rats are throwing up all sorts of distractions to take the heat off. Another week and the Rats will crack.

It is past time to start boycotting Las Vegas and Reno, until those controlling those cities and casinos get rid of Reid.

Boehner and the Republican Party have to live down their years of capitulation before Reid gets the idea they ain’t gonna’ give in this time. If Boehner does give in... it’s another reason for Reid to call his bluff next time.

Boehner, be the man in this!! .... it will be easier and quicker next time.

Reminds me of teaching a child.

Harry's greatest fear is the Tea Party that invaded his homeland in Searchlight, NV in great numbers in a show of contempt he'll never forget! Never!!!

It's why he calls them Anarchists or Terrorists or the most wretched force on earth!!! Of course this is absurd, but that's exactly why Harry so dangerous, because he IS so absurd himself, but imbued with obscene power provided by his corrupt dealings through his clouding of voters minds in the state of NV.

It is a sad thing indeed!!!

surely from this period of ten months, this is the lesson:

Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.

We stood all alone a year ago, and to many countries it seemed that our account was closed, we were finished. All this tradition of ours, our songs, our School history, this part of the history of this country, were gone and finished and liquidated.

Very different is the mood today. Britain, other nations thought, had drawn a sponge across her slate. But instead our country stood in the gap. There was no flinching and no thought of giving in; and by what seemed almost a miracle to those outside these Islands, though we ourselves never doubted it, we now find ourselves in a position where I say that we can be sure that we have only to persevere to conquer.
