The shrinks tell us we are only as sick as our secrets. And nothing inspires more secrecy than race.
But since some racial topics are off-limits, what is sick often passes for normal.
As Exhibit A, consider a recent headline in the San Francisco Chronicle: Fear white influx will erase West Oakland history. A version of this story has appeared in every major paper in the country.
The Chronicle is a card-carrying member of the chorus telling us diversity is good. But now a bunch of white folks are moving into a black neighborhood and we are supposed to wail and gnash our teeth?
The Chronicle says the new neighbors are robbing the community of its unique character by making it too nice. I dont blame you for thinking I am making this up. So lets go to the instant replay:
In any case, West Oakland looks a lot different than it did a decade ago. New condominiums have proliferated, old Victorians are undergoing renovations, shuttered factories are now artists studios, and blight has decreased. But gone, too, is a certain pride that sprung from what was once known as Harlem of theWest.

Primal pride in being a decadent warrior culture. It’s how people act when they are allowed to really be themselves.
I’ve heard people such as Jesse Jackson decry “gentrification” as old rundown neighborhoods in various cities are redeveloped. Jackson is concerned that long time residents are forced out by rising rents. And also, that it is mostly poorer black residents who are displaced.
What is the liberal view of this? I thought liberals are ok with urban renewal, just in general. But are they against it if ghetto areas are transformed into something different?
Maybe liberals don’t like this because it is a capitalist movement. After all, people and investors are rolling the dice, moving into these areas, hoping that their investments will pay off if the neighborhood improves. Maybe that’s what has liberals upset, that somebody somewhere could make money off of urban renewal.
The fact that old rundown crime ridden neighborhoods can be improved offends liberals???? Really????
This was the same wailing we heard when Harlem was becoming “Gentrifide”

They love urban renewal. As long as it is subsidized by the government so it can become a new ghetto again in 15-20 years.
I live in Oakland. I don’t miss the violence enough to warrant all CAP thread titles.
He’s right. They feel very comfortable telling honkies to GTFO.
“Gentrification” = Honkies Out.
It might be crap, but it is MY crap!
I’ve heard of some areas, when they get too many Section 8 residents, that they start going ghetto.
Hard to believe the liberals want to see new ghettos forming, but it sounds like that’s where there mindset is.
The best omelettes I ever had were at that great breakfast restaurant in Oakland and I still think about them all the time.
The Left-O-crats love urban renewal, so long as it involves eminent domain and seizing a taxpayers property ...
I’m thinking of the little hole-in-the-wall breakfast-only restaurant on Telegraph a little above 60th. They had terrific omelets. I can’t recall the name but I certainly remember their breakfasts. I wonder if they’re still there.
I can't picture them trudging through -40 temperatures to come and get you. OTOH, I don't have to worry about polar bears here in Virginia.
then there is Deetroit.
Deetroit was destroyed by the migratory Black Plague.
In Oakland, the white antibiotic is condemned
