TV pitchman pleads for mercy, jailed anyway (Kevin Trudeau)

CHICAGO — A federal judge rejected an impassioned plea from a television pitchman for his freedom on Tuesday, ordering U.S. Marshals to lock up Kevin Trudeau for failing to pay a $37 million civil judgment.

The visibly exasperated judge had already ordered that Trudeau be jailed during a hearing in Chicago when Trudeau stood up and asked if he could address the court. The Federal Trade Commission won the judgment after accusing Trudeau of hoodwinking viewers about his weight-loss books.

"There are no more assets to turn over, your honor," the 50-year-old Trudeau insisted during a 10-minute plea, at times striking a note of desperation. "I'm going to be incarcerated ... and I don't know what to do."

Is debtor’s prison back?

How can you lock up someone for failing to pay a judgment?

Not that I care about the guy; he’s clearly a crook. But this seems a bit off.

He can work on his next book: Prison; the things they don’t want you to know about.

"How can you lock up someone for failing to pay a judgment?"

Contempt of court? Why are some divorced/separated fathers in jail for failure to pay child support?

...always seemed smarmy to me....and while the Sham Wow guy and Billy Mays and others are selling up front, this guy with his fake interview schtick was always more slimy in a way....

Sheesh, it's only a lousy $37 mil. Pay the man.

I'm thinking of writing a few weight-loss books. Looks like the market's open.

I find it personally sad when these naturally super-talented salesman decide to commit acts of fraud instead of using their skills in an honest fashion.

People, like Kevin Trudeau, have the ability to retire as millionaires doing something like selling cars, but they still choose to commit acts of fraud.

Billy Mays isn’t selling anything now. He’s dead Jim.

That’s one thing you have to give credit to the sham-wow guy, his products work as intended and, afaik anyways, he’s never defrauded his customers.

His criminal convictions have nothing to do with, his line of work.

Those who are not tied in with new world order are subject to the law with extreme prejudice (i.e., prosecutions and penalties can far exceed what the law calls for).

Those who are tied in with new world order are not subject to the law other than a slap on the wrist if absolutely necessary, e.g., Executive Branch appointees, directors and top execs at most large publicly-held companies, investment bankers, members of Congress, etc. You’ll notice most of the time they basically skate.

The only thing a new world order “minion” can do to really anger nwo is seriously mess with their money-making-machine or spilling some serious beanage. In that case, nwo dispenses its own sentence of execution outside of the legal system.

If this guy can be jailed for making false claims, just think about what would be the sentence in a just world, or the afterworld, for the kenyan POS.

I realize Billy Mays passed away a couple years back....what I didn’t realize is that there was some rule against using dead people in an analogy. Perhaps you can help me out on that one.....

This guy is a fraud. Got involved in one of his pyramid schemes in the 90s. The state of Florida busted him and forced him out of business

you said “and while the Sham Wow guy and Billy Mays and others are selling up front”. I assumed since you used the word “are” that you thought he was still selling. Sorry, my bad.

I will have to take your word that Sham Wow and his other products work....what I do know is that he was flat out selling, not pretending to do some kind of bullsh-t interview fabrication....like this Trudeau sleeze always did.

Not sure why he is in judgement for his weight loss books. He basically repeated the Dr. Simeon protocol from 50 years ago..and a $37 million fine for a spurious weight loss book? I guess the shelves at my local Barnes and Noble would could fund the national debt!
