Authorities are looking for a man seen on video trying to sell a large quantity of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon at a Hardin County liquor store.

Sixty-five cases of the rare, 20-year-old bourbon valued at $25,000 were reported stolen last week from the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is looking for leads to the suspect's identity. He is described as a person of interest in the police investigation.

The color video (below) shows the man, believed to be between 50 and 60 years of age, wearing a purple pullover that Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said appears to carry a Bardstown High School logo. He reportedly drove a late-model Ford F-150 that was dark green with tan trim when he stopped at the Elizabethtown business offering to sell Pappy Van Winkle, the police report said.

In addition to the bourbon theft, the distillery reported that nine cases of 13-year-old Van Winkle Family Reserve rye also were stolen.

Police ask that anyone with information also can be made by texting (502) 320-3306 or calling the sheriff’s office at (502) 875-8740.

The store where this happened is "Packages and More", which is located on Dixie Highway, just down the road from Hardin Memorial Hospital for those of you who know the area.

Everybody knows that you sell directly to the local bars to avoid the paper work and the potential tax problems. Also, if you steel booze, take the mass produced stuff that all bars have. Jack Daniels, Sky vodka, and any other mid level brand that can be found at any local corner bar.

I am having a Hell of a time trying to unload the last 10 cases of Olde Frothingslosh I found in a ditch back in 1975.

I have about 25% of a bottle of Pappy 15 Year Family Reserve. It’s nice. But I actually prefer Angels Envy.

That is awesome. Something tells me that you could sell those cans to anyone. Hell, I would buy one myself and I don’t even collect cans or drink much beer.
