We’re facing a stark choice. Either we change the direction in which the country is moving, or we run off the cliff.

The way I see it, the Tea Party is the only significant force trying to slow down our head-long rush into disaster. Truthfully, I expect them to fail. And I expect them to destroy the GOP in the process. But for them to succeed is our only possible future that doesn’t involve massive societal destruction. So it’s a long shot, but at this point it’s our only option.

If they succeed, the GOP will be fine, and the country will be better off. If they fail, the GOP will be destroyed, and that will be so small a part of our problems that no one will notice.

I agree.

The only way out is to go forward With Changes for / to the GOP.

The USA is a constitutional republic, not a “democracy.”

This is (supposed to be) the United States of America - not the Federal Republic of America.

We either restore the past as the future of the US of A, or we as a nation decline.

Keep in mind that the media are now unashamed agents of the Democratic Party, and that all policy disputes will be cast as disagreements between “rational” Democrats and “extremist” Republicans. And even indisputable facts will not get in their way. For example, when the recent government shutdown was looming, the Seattle Times editorialized that it was time for Republicans to break ranks and show courage, to quit acting as a monolithic block-vote. But that is what the DEMOCRATS were doing - acting as a block vote - whereas the Republicans were divided and squabbling.
