A 21-year-old man murdered execution-style – shot to death in a grocery store filled with customers.
It happened Monday evening in the 1900 block of W. Susquehanna Avenue in North Philadelphia.
Brutal and brazen, police say is the gunman who entered the grocery store in broad daylight and fired at least 14 shots, killing a young father, leaving family and friends in disbelief.
Cheryl Williams, the victim’s Godmother said, “Too many young men are just losing their lives. It’s hard.”
Police tell us the shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. The victim was among the 10 people inside at the time. According to investigators, the surveillance video inside the store shows the 21-year-old targeted and ambushed.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said, “The shooter chased the victim down one of the isles, where the victim collapsed. The shooter is seen clearly standing over the victim firing several shots while the victim was laying on the floor. It was an execution type homicide.”
Pedro DeJesus says in the six years he has owned the store, he has never had any problems.
Investigators are now hoping surveillance video from the scene and neighboring businesses will help them identify the cold and calculated killer.
Luz Siberio of North Philadelphia said, “I’m shocked because if I was in there, I would have lost my mind, because my son is always coming to the store, I’m always coming in the store.”

Being shot execution style suggests the young man may have been involved in drugs or other illegal activity. If so, that is the problem. Stay out of illegal activity and you aren’t likely to be killed that way.
Yes, it’s tragic, but may I suggest to the community that, instead of wringing their hands and marching, they actually steer these young men away from criminal activity? Problem is, there is no strong family to raise the kids right. Parents have abdicated their roles as parents to the state. And the state can’t do the job.
