This is why Obamacare is canceling some people’s insurance plans
Washington Post ^ | October 29, 2013 | By Sarah Kliff

Let's start with the very basics here. About 15 million people purchase health insurance policies on the individual market. That's about 5 percent of the population.

Some -- or maybe even most -- of the plans offered on the individual insurance market right now don't meet certain requirements in the health-care law. They may not offer preventive care without co-payment, for example, or leave out coverage of maternity care, one of the health-care law's 10 essential benefits.

How many people are going to get cancellation notices?

It's hard to put an exact number on this, given that insurance plans are the ones who decide whether or not to continue offering an insurance product. Experts have estimated that somewhere between half and three-quarters of those who currently buy their own policies will not have the option to renew coverage, which works out to around 7 to 12 million people.

What does this have to do with Obamacare?

Pretty much everything: Since the health-care law required insurance companies to change their plans, this is a direct result of the Affordable Care Act.

I have been away for a while. Does the latest version of the healthcare.gov website still prompt for the option to register to vote?

Then that’s probably what ours is going to be, too. We get to ‘look’ at the new plan on Nov 5. Managers are grim when discussing it.

Fact is, I might not be able to afford insurance come January. Then what?

There is no risk that I will need maternity services.”

If I ever get pregnant again you will see a star shining in the East. I totally agree with you and just have a real problem with anyone - government or not - telling me what needs to be covered by my insurance plan. Had a huge argument with two of my friends who are SOOOOOO happy that Medicare is going to cover wellness checks at no cost to them. They won’t even talk about the fact that somebody has to pay for all this stuff and if not them, then it’s the rest of us.

What does this have to do with Obamacare?

If Obamacare didn't exist there would be no cancellation notices.

Except... if you are “poor”, then we will GIVE you a new car that meets the new rules under 0bamacar. Because we can’t have poor people being disadvantaged and feeling left out. We’ll just raise the taxes/prices/fines that the working people pay, so it will work out great.

fun with numbers

About 15 million people purchase health insurance policies on the individual market. That's about 5 percent of the population.

approx. 63% have other than Goobernment insurance
-198.8 million in 2012.
So, 15 million is approx. 7.5 %. of those that have insurance.

The population of the US is approx. 314 million, so 15 million is more like 4.7% of the population

However, if I lose my insurance, so does my wife.
So, how many people are actually covered under those 15 million policies ?

As usual it's the small business owners and self-employed who are suffering the most.

Obama has given zero breaks to individual entrepreneurs in 5 years.

And, of course, this is by design. The elites HATE the bourgeois class.

tell me more. Did you get a notice that it was because of Ocare? I’ve been wondering Why those who get insurance thru employers are NOT affected. Certainly their rates will rise — or is that next year?

If you add up the extra premium for the one wellness check it’s cheaper to just pay for it.

Does the obamacare one size fits all, require the same coverage for men as for women? I’m not being sarcastic, but want to know. I did a search and couldn’t find an answer.

This is your notice from Obamacar.....you have to buy a new car with a higher car payment because the car you have now does not comply with the rules under Obamacar. You will be fined....taxed....whatever if you fail to do this. I am from the gubmint and I am here to help you.

Actually, this brings up a point from a discussion I was having the other day... Leftists seem to have serious cognitive disassociation. They seem to understand that if you increase the cost of a behavior, say by taxing it, there will be less of that behavior. But they seem to believe that increasing costs on things of which they approve will have no effect. For instance, they don't seem to understand that by increasing the cost of health insurance and then requiring people to have it, or the cost of energy, the people will have LESS disposable income to inject into the economy by buying things, like cars. Or saving to buy a home. Or saving for retirement. In other words, to make the public as dependent as possible on "Uncle Sugar."

They simply ignore reality, but the scary thing is that the majority of the voting public believe their lies, and if they get amnesty for illegal aliens, they'll have a permanent majority in congress, and the Great American Experiment will have ended in failure. Benjamin Franklin is reported to have said that the Founding Fathers had delivered to us a republic, if we could keep it... Thanks to the republic devolution into a "democracy," and the uninformed masses who vote for "bread and circuses," we've lost it.

Of course, since Obama illegally delayed all oBamKare requirements regarding employer-provided insurance for at least a year, the REAL poop won’t hit the fan for another year, when almost ALL of THOSE plans must be cancelled because they are no longer allowed by oBamKare, and TENS OF MILLIONS of new people receive cancellation notices and/or notices that their rates just tripled and out-of-pocket just quintupled. Of course by then, the 2014 elections will be safely over and most Democrats will have survived.

Yep, that’s pretty much the case.

The requirements probably include free prostate exams AND maternity coverage.

Anyone have one of those policies now?

As government central planners shrink the available options eventually health care insurance will equal toilet paper in the former Soviet Union.

Those who had to use it, know what I mean.

It is pathetic we let central planners gain so much control of government at all levels.

Absolutely! So what if a few whiney baggers lose their healthcare? It's a small price to pay on our long march forward towards a Marxist utopia.
