Deceased Republican President Ronald Reagan sought to to permanently ban African Americans from playing college and professional football in the South with white people, civil rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. alleged in a speech at Furman University on Wednesday evening.
In the same speech he also alleged that the modern Tea Party was born from efforts to sustain segregation.
“Goldwater and Reagan – had they been successful, it would have been illegal for blacks and whites to play together on a Saturday afternoon,” he said.

In the hour long speech, which focused on race but meandered through a number of subjects, Jackson made other incendiary comments, for example suggesting that the Washington Redskins name is a reference to the scalping of American Indians.
“How about pictures we see of Indians stabbing the cowboys,” he asked. "In reality what happened was if If you killed an Indian... [inaudible]…finally you got paid for the scalps of the red skins of the Indians…and that’s how we got the Washington Redskins football league.”
He repeatedly calling the United States south “the land of the free, the home of genocide,” and suggested that the modern day Tea Party was born from efforts to maintain "the walls" of slavery and segregation.

Hey, Reverend, it’s really easy to nay say a dead man. Never heard you say any of this while he was alive...and as big a race baiter as you are, if there had even been the slightest hint of such a thing back then, you would have been all over it like a mangy dog on a gut wagon.
During the colonial period, various colonies had bounties on Indian scalps, and it's possible some states did in the early days, but AFAIK the USA itself never had such bounties.
The French during colonial days paid bounties for scalps of English settlers, and during our Revolution the British paid for American scalps.
During the Old West days the Mexicans paid bounties at different times for Indians scalps, and some Americans got their scalps in US territory and got paid for them in Mexico. This turned out to be a bad idea for the Mexicans, as it is difficult to distinguish a Mexican scalp from an Indian scalp.

Odd comment, since Reagan played himself on the same team with blacks. And went considerably beyond that in demonstrating distaste for segregation.
On the football team at Eureka he saw for himself something of the problems of racial discrimination, and he reacted to what he saw in the way his parents had demonstrated. The team, which included three black players, was travelling for a game to a town which happened to be near Reagan’s home. When they tried to book rooms for the night the hotel would not admit the three black players. Dutch Reagan promptly took a leaf from his father’s book: he got enough money from the coach to cover transportation costs, and he escorted the three black players to his own home. They were welcomed warmly by his parents and invited to spend the night.

Anti lynching legislation is one of the few things that Calvin Coolidge actively pushed and it was filibustered by democrats in congress every time a bill came up.
