The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon) has a network of food canning and distribution centers around the nation, where volunteer church members donate time to can food grown on the churchs farms and orchards or purchased from other sources. The purpose of this network of canneries is to provide food to those who have been caught in disasters or just caught short by an ever-declining national economy. Millions of pounds of food are prepared for distribution annually in the LDS canneries.
Recently, we have heard rumblings that the federal government has been paying very close attention to the churchs cannery network and that the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration have been imposing increasingly burdensome regulations and requirements on the LDS canneries. Despite the cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art equipment at these clean-room quality facilities, federal agencies have been hitting the LDS church with improvised fines for violations they find during surprise inspections. Reports of an FBI raid at one facility where agents demanded a list of the names of the cannerys patrons was especially troublesome...
...Why is the federal government going after the LDS Church? There are a number of reasons that come to mind. Obamas nemesis in the general election was a prominent member of the LDS Church. Members of the church tend to vote in a conservative block. The LDS Church teaches the worship of God and His Son Jesus Christ, independence, morality, education, and family and traditional valuesall things that are abhorrent to the current administration, which has proven its willingness to abuse its authority to go after those with whom it disagrees (Romney supporters, patriotic groups, conservatives, Christians, etc.).

I have heard about this as well. It would seem that unless Obamanation gives its approval, self sufficiency is to be discouraged, and in some cases outlawed. It’s the government way or the highway.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he is. He wants everyone in the country to be dependent upon his regime for their survival.
Didn’t know this, but it fits their M.O.
They are after anything they don’t control. They are after anyone they don’t control.
Charity hospitals are in their cross-hairs to be shut down. Food networks, similarly. So this makes perverse sense.
Same thing they are doing to back yard farms, and people selling on the side of the road in those little stands
They’re trying to find out who the preppers are.
Socialist dictators usually go after anyone who is stockpiling anything, and call it “hoarding”.
So as things deteriorate, as rule of law deteriorates, expect them to go after preppers of every stripe.
Do LDS canneries empower individual Americans and make them less dependent on the Collective?
Why is Obama’s government going after the LDS Church and its charity? Because Obama believes that “Charity” is wholly owned by the government and that churches have not right to participate. The government uses “charity” to gain votes to keep it in power. thus control of “charity” must be taken from individuals and churches.
Reduces depemdency. Machine runs on desperation.
Eliminate rival stabilizing influences...
I thought Harry “@ss” Reid had Dumbo’s ear?
It is essential to socialism that government must control all means of production, directly or indirectly. The reason for this is that the source of their power comes from rationing everything of value. Anything produced otherwise, or available in abundance, can be used as an “alternative currency”, and undermine the absolute power of government.
As far as this LDS operation goes, it is a major target both because it can produce and distribute at large scale, in ways outside of government management and control.
As such, it can provide food for people the government does not want fed, and do so in such quantity that it can undermine government imposed artificial shortages.
The word "Church" is the first clue.
Here is an entire industry, as you can see. It is manned by volunteers, people from the Church. The foodstuffs that are here are raised by volunteers, picked by volunteers. Theyre brought here. Theyre canned. Theyre put up in whatever packages are appropriate. And theyre used to distribute to those people who have real need here in the state of Utah and all over the country, for that matterpeople from the Church.
And you wonder why others havent thought of the same thing and been able to do this.
... If more people had had this idea back when the Great Depression hit, there wouldnt be any government welfare today or need for it.
Proctologist wannabe.....
He’s no Mormon; he’s a Marxist.
I say this sadly w/ no hyperbole: the soviets had it a lot better for at least they knew exactly what they had and what they were dealing with. In this fundamental transformation of obaminatin, everyone is either so FU lost cause already or so in shock of what is happening that an almost denial stupor has taken hold of the country. No one wants to believe that the monster staring them in the face is real, even amongst the right and conservatives.
I was so stupid, I thought freedom was so well-fortified and indestructible in this country, but it is rather so very vulnerable and exposed. Look what one wretched puny community organizer has been able to do.
Unfortunately, this is not new news.
We have been canning at a location in Georgia for the past 3 years and were told last visit that all future canning would be centralized (out of Ogden?).
If purchases were to made after sometime around the new year, we couldn’t save a little money by canning ourselves. Rather, we could only buy pre-canned and packaged items.
So, not a total loss, but certainly another regulatory intrusion by the nanny state which always knows what’s best for the little folks.
“The word “Church” is the first clue. “
That’s a despicable comment!!! Most Mormons are decent, hardworking people and they love their church. Bet you are a BAC! If so, how’s the snake handling going?
