G.O.P. Weighs Limiting Clout of Right Wing (Rove, Priebus to pick our candidates for us...)
NY Times ^ | 11/6/13 | JEREMY W. PETERS and JONATHAN MARTIN

Leaders of the Republican establishment, alarmed by the emergence of far-right and often unpredictable Tea Party candidates, are pushing their party to rethink how it chooses nominees and advocating changes they say would result in the selection of less extreme contenders.

The push comes as the national Republican Party is grappling with vexing divisions over its identity and image, and mainstream leaders complain that more ideologically-driven conservatives are damaging the party with tactics like the government shutdown.

The debate intensified on Wednesday after Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II, the deeply conservative Republican candidate for governor of Virginia, lost a close race in which Democrats highlighted his opposition to abortion in almost all circumstances, his views on contraception and comments in which he seemed to liken immigration policy to pest control.

The party leaders pushing for changes want to replace state caucuses and conventions, like the one that nominated Mr. Cuccinelli, with a more open primary system that they believe will draw a broader cross-section of Republicans and produce more moderate candidates.

No, it's WAY past time to take it back!

AMEN! And I had an idea that I wanted to float around here. What if we use all of the brain power and talent that is here on this site and DEVELOP policy. A conservative think tank that can put together legislation for submittal to our representatives?

They need to realize that they are toast if they exclude their base

Perhaps they don't view us as their base.

Chris Christie

I wouldn't be surprised at all that if push comes to shove, Christie changes his party affiliation for the 2016 elections.

For the RNC to run “more moderate” candidates they would have to move towards the right.

I am in no way advocating for the No Labels “movement” that hatched recently. I perused their website the other day (hat tip to a freeper posting their link) and checked out their “about” or “policy” pages. I found a number of ideas that made sense, or that I could agree with. Of course, whether any policy would survive the FR crucible remains to be seen. Having said that, some kind of tangible white paper(s) giving each of us a model to use when communicating with Congress in our own words might have legs. Of course we can start with Jim's commandments from off of the website’s home page. Lock and load.

I think that the most good would come from direct action individually and collectively here at FR; put another way- less talking and more doing. It's easier to sit at the commands and controls in a keyboard commo. center, than it is to attend town hall meetings, visit reps. when they are in their home districts, or visit statehouses or the District of Columbia. The rats have this strategy down to a science.

I realize I'm stating the obvious, and speaking about two very different steps or actions. One physical, and one mental. It takes both.

There are a number of recurring threads here at FR; some generating thousands of posts.

Do you really think that conservatives not turning out to vote frightens them? That is precisely what those socialists want.

FINALLY?

I have for all my years here at FR been warning that the wealthy/ruling class is out to destroy the American middle class and it's uppity Constitution. This should come as no surprise since the wealthy/ruling classes always tries destroy the middle class once the middle class gains enough wealth power to threaten the ruling class. Post WW2 saw the American middle class gain tremendous power and wealth so it was easy to predict the inevitable war on us. A Fascist system will prevent a rise of a middle class and permanently cement the power of the ruling elites. This is a well traveled road we are on and I am surprised so few of us can see where it leads. I blame public schools, or I should say I credit public schools (post 1970) for doing an excellent job of blinding John Q Public to the dangers he/she faces.

I think it was very clever to use Marxism to get to Fascism, very clever indeed, that I did not foresee.

I’m taking the bull by the horns on this idea and going straight to the top. I’ll be spending my day today getting this ball rolling and typing a letter suggesting this idea to the folks I think will help the most in making this happen (so long as they concur obviously) I.E. Mark Levin, Rush, Glen Beck, Ted Cruz, and Governor Palin.

My belief is that if grassroots events such as those that march against Washington or the truckers that recently convoyed in DC will and have gone so much as to go, and at their personal expense, all the way to DC with their support with phenominal turnout. You have to ask yourself, “Dang, what could the turnout have been if people who really wanted to participate couldn’t because of expense or job or whatever the reason.

This Idea brings those folks into being able to participate in a message without much inconvenience and no expense other than a quick trip to their local supervisor of elections office to make the switch.

I’d like some FReeper input on delivery of my letter to above mentioned people. I know that they are most likely bombarded everyday with all sorts of letters and want to make sure mine get through the clutter and was thinking of sending them out certified mail or FedEx to ensure delivery. Thoughts?

If it looks like he CAN’T get nominated as a Republican, you may be right. After all, this is the Northeast. We saw that with Bloomberg and with Lindsey Graham and early in his career Christie toyed with running as a Dem.

How about an “I am no longer a Republican” face book page? Or something similar, like, “I do not and will not vote RINO”. Lol.
