I don't buy the "miscalculation". How can they "miscalculate" by 50% on something they do every year, and for which they have many years of sales data?
Sounds more like they are tightening belts, and are unwilling to risk have any unfrozen turkeys in inventory post-Thanksgiving.

Most people buy 16+lbs for Thanksgiving -barely anyone buys the smaller birds in comparison to the larger ones for this holiday.
Something screwed up pretty bad to have 50% of the volume slashed for the whole country, and being told today - so close to Thanksgiving - is very sort notice.
I’m still not seeing this story anywhere else so who knows...
Kind of like if the candy companies forgot to make extra candy for Halloween.
