NYT, NPR: Reports on Knockout Game 'Overblown,' 'No Big Deal'

Writing in Real Clear Politics, Larry Elder says the New York Times (NYT) and National Public Radio (NPR) are ignoring the black-on-white crime taking place in the "Knockout Game"—that the NYT and NPR view reports on the game as "overblown" and "no big deal."

The papers claim these attacks "do not represent a trend."

According to Elder: "From a distance the media can spot some lone idiot holding up an offensive sign at a tea party rally. But when it comes to black perp/white victim crime, there is a different attitude."

He cites a 2006 incident in Long Beach, CA, where "a mostly black mob of 30 to 40 teens and adults brutally kicked, punched, and pummeled three white women, slamming them to the ground, ripping earrings from their lobes and beating them with a skateboard." He said that when NPR decided to cover the story—"a month later"—their coverage consisted of asking whether a black person can even commit a "hate crime... given America's history of racism."

Claiming that blacks are NOT committing “hate crimes” will in the end come back and bite them in the butt.

Sort of like crying wolf in reverse. They are claiming that white people have nothing to fear from groups of young black males. Well if they believe that I invite them to walk down any Martin Luther King Ave after dark, alone, and see how long before they discover what real hate crimes are.

Prejudice and hate crimes are real in this nation but the perpetrators of these crimes are not who the media says they are.

So we will just add this claim to the long list of lies the media tell.

Not long ago, the liberal media gave hysterical, headline coverage to a single isolated incident of a white man, George Zimmerman, killing a black youth, Trayvon Martin, in what a jury determined was self defense. Yet today the same media refuses to acknowledge and give more than minimal coverage to a wave of black youths systematically attacking defenseless white people on the streets of our major cities.

And the Trayvon Martin case wouldn’t have received any media coverage at all beyond the city where it happened if the Reverend Als — Sharpton and Jackson — hadn’t hyped it all out of proportion to drag in the national media.

The only way the Knockout Game will receive major media attention is if a white victim defends himself by shooting a young black perpetrator. Then the hysteria will begin, the Reverend Als will come screaming out of the woodwork, and the poor victim will be so vilified he’ll wish he’d just lain in the street being punched half to death rather than trying to fight back.
