$15 minimum wage means layoffs: White Castle exec
CNBC ^ | December 4, 2013 | Drew Sandholm

A top executive at White Castle cooked up a spicy retort on Wednesday to calls by some fast-food workers to raise the minimum wage to $15 a hour from $7.25, arguing such an increase would force the hamburger chain to close nearly half of its locations and lay off thousands of workers.

"To more than double the federally mandated starting wage wouldn't be bad for White Castle, it would be absolutely catastrophic," Jamie Richardson, vice president of White Castle, told CNBC's "Closing Bell" on Wednesday.

Such an increase would force the closure of more than 200 of its 406 locations across the United States, Richardson said, with any remaining locations "glowing embers. They would be dying stars."

Robots don’t argue or get distracted or try to use their cell phone during business hours or get sick or walk off the job

Yeah, but robots can start thinking for themselves and replace all of us!

“...but Bob Beckel on the Five was saying that some study by economists proved that there is no correlation between the an increase in the minimum wage and unemployment.”

Ever notice how this conclusion is universally offered by people purporting to be economists, who nearly always lack any actual business experience, as opposed to employers, who have to deal with this issue all the time?

Republicans continue to remain silent on all of this.

They're busy trying to figure out how they can convince people the doubled minimum wage was their idea.

If the board and stockholders want to keep White Castle and any other fast food business open, they’ll vote to take a hit by closing a signifcant number of fast food joints immediately. Wait a month and then re-open with all new hires at today’s minimum wage.

The libtards in Austin, TX are striking, too.

http://www.kvue.com/news/local/234123011.html

“Austin workers are expected to walk off the job at McDonald’s, Jack in the Box, Burger King, Wendy’s, Wingstop and Popeye’s. The public has been invited to strike with them, faith leaders and supporters at noon on Thursday. The specific location will be released at 11:30 a.m. before the event.

About 28,275 fast foot workers are employed in Austin. Their median wage is $8.83.”

Fire the fools and hire people that will work. This low entry work that was designed fro high school kids. Now days there is people trying to live off these jobs. This is what happens when we loose our industrial jobs due to the communists and tree huggers that want to control all of the manufacturing jobs because of the “impact” that it has on the enviroment.

The argument should be: “If I apply for a job at $8 an hour, and am hired to be productive and provide a service, who are you to stand in my way?”
Why is volunteer work ($0.00/hr) ok? Sometimes volunteer jobs provide free food. Other low wage jobs may involve sitting on your butt, watching TV or smartphone, waiting for the rare phone call or walk-in to interrupt your play. Higher minimum wages just restrict freedom. Obama’s way of saying “If you like your job, you can’t keep it.”

If these fast food workers do not want to work and want to walk off the job for higher wages, then so be it. Replace them with new employees. Then, replace as many workers in your business with a robot who can do their jobs. The product would be prepared more uniformly and the manager could eliminate a lot of personnel problems.

Yep, there are many who need jobs- and how stupid of them this close to Christmas to try and pull a stunt like this. Higher wages mean higher prices, layoffs and store closings. How economically ignorant can liberals get? That is rhetorical, of course.

Part of me actually wants this to be pushed through to prove the point that it doesn’t work. These bozos look at gross profit figures and reach the ridiculous conclusion they can dramatically increase the cost of labor without effect.

I agree with your post except for having robots take over the jobs - people need work - and even if it is at fast food - for some people - it helps pay the bills.

CEOs of these companies should put out a press release that says: If you LIKE your job - you BETTER keep your job - by showing up to work. Simple as that. Fire their greedy arses and replace them with people who will work.

I am all for a $500.00/hour minimum wage with all wages above that also increased the same percentages. I know that a Hamburger would cost $300.00 but I could pay off my mortgage and all debts next payday. Moochelle does not want us to eat hamburgers anyway. Seriously, don’t people understand basic economics? No matter what you increase the minimum wage to it only helps on a short term as prices very quickly adjust so that the increased pay equals the same value as the previous minimum wage.

Yes. The people who call Barry Benghazi a ‘failed president’, ‘incompetent’, or ‘stupid’ are missing the point. He’s none of these things. All the debt and destruction demonstrate the success of his deliberate, willful anti-American policies.

As much as the Republican Party aggravates me in all kinds of ways, I have to wonder if they're not addressing it, but with a "tree falls in a forest" effect because the MSM ignores them.

In my part of the country, people with college degrees are offered $10-$12 an hour and often with no benefits. These fast food agitators have no grasp of reality in today’s world.
