Could GPS rockets help put an end to high-speed police chases?

The new technology allows a police officer to fire a dart-like device from the grill of his cruiser. All the officer needs to do is get close to a fleeing suspect before firing the rocket, which then sticks to the other car with super sticky glue.

When that happens, the pursuing cops can stop their chase and watch where the criminal stops via GPS. …

Car-to-car missles? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished for them in rush hour traffic.

Wont work...Bad guys use stolen vehicles, and once the cop pursuit stops, they go out of sight and bail on foot, or jump into other cars etc, etc...

How many dogs will get shot by these darts?

The key here is that the officer needs to get close in the first place; resulting in a high speed chase.

Gallagher had predicted this back in the 1970s. Issue every driver a dart gun, and darts with a attached "stupid" flag. If someone cuts you off in traffic, you shoot their car with a stupid dart. If a cop sees a car with more than five stupid darts on the trunk, said driver will be pulled over and ticketed for being an idiot.

GPS?? What a joke! If they use explosive warheads it will make sure the officers go home to their families.

“What in the world do you have stuck to your forehead?”

“I think it’s one of those police GPS rockets.”

“Aren’t those supposed to hit cars?”

“Yeah.....I guess so.”

“Well, how are you going to get it removed?”

“I’m not. The girls at school thinks it makes me look kind of dangerous.”

I’ve imagined a new auto sport similar to this.

Imagine....

An arena about 1/8 mile x 1/8 mile, suped-up cars/trucks that are stripped down to racing configs (Roll cages, fuel bladders, etc.). Now, mount powerful paint guns (Fixed firing position) on the hoods of each vehicle and paint or afix “Hit spots” on each vehicle. There are teams. After a set number of hits in hit spots a vehicle is disabled where ever it ended up. Last team with a member left wins.

I expect there would be some carnage. What a hoot to watch though, right?

If pursuit can be eased back without fear that the individual will be completely lost, while giving the police an ability to intercept the car even after the contact is lost, the one fleeing would need to abandon the car for another ASAP to keep from being tracked—and the GPS would convey immediately when and where the car slows down to consider such activity. It may not solve everything, but it does seem like a useful tool in some instances.

Why not use the tried and true Ubama approach and simply take ‘em out with a rocket from a drone.

A useful tool at what cost? You’d have to put one of these on almost every car to be of any use.

besides it would put the helicopters out of business.

Instead of 5 stupid flags, they could look for one Obama bumper sticker.

Won’t work. I’ll just push the button on my dash that deploys an oil slick behind my car. The police car will then go careening off course right before he can hit me with his GPS dart.

The cops will be foiled again!

Wouldnt the impact crush the GPS?

Try dropping your cell phone off a 4 or 5 story building onto your car.
