Tesla battery swap a fake - company gets $55M for non-existent feature
Doubting is thinking ^ | 9-12-2013 | Alberto Zaragoza

Posted on 12/08/2013 8:06:30 PM PST by AlbertoZaragoza

The maximum amount of credits goes to a car that can go 300 miles and refuel to 95% of capacity within 15 minutes. The Tesla Model S falls short on range and, especially, on refuelling time.

....

And so the joke begins. At the end of 2012, Californai decided that they needed a way to account for the Model S' ability to do a 90-second battery swap. This effectively meant it was refuelling a lot faster than its 15 minutes target, and to 100% capacity to boot. So the cancelled version remained at 4 credits, but the short-range version was upgraded to 5, and the long-range to 7.

About 70% of Model S sales have been of the long-range version.

.......

The problem is that the Tesla Model S cannot do a battery swap!

Tesla has been getting tens of millions thanks to a feature that nobody will ever use.

You can just go to the Tesla forum and read the experiences of people who've had their batteries "swapped".

"My battery swap happened this week in Rockville. My 85's battery went bad in the parking lot at Rockville while waiting for other scheduled service, so they had to replace it. The job took 3 hours of mechanic labor, and 7600 units of ethylene glycol, three seals, two dozen bolts, and a replacement cover (I am looking at the 9-page repair order as I write this). When we asked the service tech about why it took so long since they are designed for swapping (we already knew better), he just laughed."

The scam goes on.

Another thing I’ve been trying to find info on, is how tesla station is able to generate enough energy to charge all the cars that charged go here, just from solar panels. I find its hard to believe those little solar panels, built in cloudy location is able to charge all those cars

That’s another bit of Tesla magic. Basic math shows the panels can provide maybe one per cent of electricity use, so I hope the stations don’t have lights.

They use it to keep the batteries at the best operating temperature for them.

Their key lime cheesecake is world class. Here's an excerpt from the story from the Corsicana Daily Sun

November 26, 2013
New way to ‘fill up’
By Bob Belcher
Corsicana Daily Sun

Corsicana — Owners of the Tesla electric vehicle in Texas can now travel freely through the Golden Triangle, thanks to the opening of two new charging stations.

Navarro County is host to one of the “Supercharger” stations that was officially opened Tuesday at the Collin Street Bakery Interstate 45 location. A second charging station was opened Tuesday afternoon in Huntsville.

“This officially opens the ‘Texas Triangle,’” said Daniel Witt of Tesla in conducting Tuesday’s ceremony on the bakery parking lot. “We’re pleased to have these open for Tesla customers to travel free throughout these routes.”

The 120-Kilovolt charging stations work exclusively on the Tesla electric sedan, providing ample recharging of the vehicle’s battery system in the time it takes to have lunch, Witt said. The service is provided free to those customers.

*snip*

“Our Superchargers are roughly 125 to 150 miles apart, so you have adequate range to get from Supercharger to Supercharger comfortably,” Georgeson added.

Those batteries get hot.
Gotta have a cooling system.
Gotta have a cooling system that don’t freeze.

Here's a story about Tesla charging stations popping up all over the place. Given Musk's past performance of selling vaporware, we'll see what happens in a year. I could get it from that article but it appears that these are charging, not swapping stations but I cold be wrong). Reading the article, a 15 minute charge is really a 20 minute charge good for only a %50 charge of the car's batteries.

From this article:

Even so, charging time is still a sticking point. With the latest superchargers, Tesla’s stations deliver a 50% charge in 20 minutes; the recommended 80% charge (more than enough to travel between stations, Tesla says) takes 40 minutes; and a full charge takes 75 minutes. Of course, they spin this—you have time for a “quick” bathroom break or meal (their stations are typically near such amenities).

Tesla Charging station

But the longer you’re on the road, the more those 20- or 40-minute stops add up. Musk estimates he’ll spend “only” nine hours charging on his 3,200-mile, cross-country odyssey. But let’s not kid ourselves. That’s significant.

Speaking of used car salesman Musk, he was quick to charge Boeing with making unsafe 787's due to the type of battery they use and of course he got a plug in for his save the world Tesla motors and can I have my Nobel now speech.

Yet, he's curiously silent about the fire in his own house. Granted, if a Tesla catches fire, you just pull over and stop and get out and pray that somewhere this is covered yet Musk had nothing to say.

Oh, wait, he did have something to say. The petulant Musk says:

Musk statement on Tesla fires

Does anyone know if the free charging Musk is talking about, is in the contract and is it good for the life of the car, only good for original owner or limited to miles?

I wonder where this electricity comes from, clean nuclear, clean natural gas, wait, doesn't that emit the instantly deadly Co2 gas or coal which not only emits CO2 but it kills kittehs, bird Cuisinart wind turbines or solar?

I do think that down the road, solar is going to kick *ss. All they need is a high efficiency storage system so the day's charge is available for night use and the solar cell I read about a long time ago that supposedly, with one photon, released two electrons thereby doubling its efficiency. Or something like that, I read about it several years ago.

Wow, that’s great! Drive 2 hrs, take a nice long stop to eat a meal, then repeat the process.

So you nearly double the time to get from point A to B, but you get to feel all smug doing it. And you end up with that great Al Gore physique from all of the overeating! What’s not to love?

I think I will just keep driving the HEV diesel.

I agree about that long break every 2 hours. A break from driving is a good idea, but an hour every time is excessive. Not everyone has to eat in their spare time.

Thanks, that makes sense. Odd that the stuff would be measured in units, though, sort of like blood.

I’d hate to think what would happen if the batteries overheated.

OK, how soon are other electric car manufacturers going to make a plug that plugs into Tesla’s free charging station. Or an adapter.

I see a product opportunity. An adapter that adapts cars like the Prius with battery hookup and the leaf Nissan to use the Tesla charging station’s connections for that free fill up. C’mon Musk, it’s for the environment of course. They’re not thieves, they’re visionaries.
Since I know this has an enormous lawsuit attached to it, I published my idea as I think Tesla would be mighty upset that their free world saving device would work with other world changing devices.
Gaea is not pleased!
Prior art is happy though.

What, no Joseph Newman energy machine that was explained to him through God, who also told him to marry his 12 year relative? Even genius John Glen got involved.

Kook of the decade

One of the first questions by kook Newman. 'Paraphrase' Now, you think you could move the armature attached to a pump? No way, totally a meaningless demonstration but he makes it sound like a great example.

He also uses people who have a PhD in electrical and mechanical engineering, no, I kid, the people he talks to know nothing about physics or electricity, it'd be like asking Odinga about economics.

If you see the video where he says his machine is producing energy at the speed of light, sadly, seriously you know he's not all there. I'm torn between him being a con or suffering from self delusions.

Notice when he unplugs his contraption, despite this charlatan saying it's running on its own power, you can audibly hear it slowing down. Nice how he shows one 9 volt battery. Too bad he has hundreds in series. No fraud there.

When he shows his cars, he never goes faster then 5mph and the car always drives almost out of sight of the camera, never close enough to hear it or judge how it's being driven. For all we know a generator is inside powering the electric motor like a Diesel Electric train. That or it still has the original engine, why go to all the work when you're a fraud?

I like how he demands that we get behind his invention. I wouldn't get near it, can you imagine if that flywheel came loose?

Here's a story of one man's encounter with the world's greatest scientist you'll read why:

The Norm Biss Story

I feel real bad for the people with real degrees who signed the affadavit that his machine is a joke, no I mean the savior of mankind. Again and again, he say people need to get behind this. Well, where is Warren Buffet or Bill gates?

What about the fact that the machine uses voltage not amps. Seeing as how they are interrelated, I'm thinking that Joe doesn't understand ELI the ICE MAN. or this equation.

This pyramid is how you determine one variable when you have two of the three, note, this only works on DC.

If you know E and I, and wish to determine R, just eliminate R from the picture and see what's left:

If you know E and R, and wish to determine I, eliminate I and see what's left:

Lastly, if you know I and R, and wish to determine E, eliminate E and see what's left:

Wattage is E x I or say you're missing the I but have current and voltage: I= E/R, this Easily gives you I

Missing E, no problem E=I x R

Notice how they are related? Imagine if you eliminated the current from the equation (or more accurately, represented it as 0) and you would be dividing by zero, a thought too hard to even contemplate.

Want to look at the A/C equations, you'll be surprised, you get to use Trig outside of geometry.

A/C Equations

Essentially vector equations.

CarCharging has partnered with Walgreens.

I was surprised to see so many charging stations in the DFW area on Google maps

Having noted the above, I'll stick with my gas guzzling pickup.

DFW has a lot of wealthy people.
Tesla has a VERY wealthy buyer demographic.

what don’t you know how to use google? Or are you that stupid that you actually believe the mis-information you spout?

Why the hell do I have to rub your nose in something by “giving” you a link — can’t you operate a computer yourself?
This may come as somewhat of a shock to you, but google earth DOES NOT UPDATE THEIR SAT IMAGES EVERY DAY, OR WEEK, OR MONTH, EVEN YEAR!

My my, forget your meds or something?

Try these:

Ah, a Tesla fanboy, you're so cute when you're young but very unattractive when it turns out your dream is an old clunker with a nice fiberglass shell on it. So, does Tesla make cars or make money selling it's car credits due to the efficiency of its 'fleet'?

Let me know when you get to your Jr. year in High School, maybe you'll understand thing better. Then again, probably not.

what are you a Union guy or something?

I don’t own a tesla, don’t really want one. But I know when someone is flat our lying or not.

Why don’t you just drive by a supercharger station and watch, unless you think it’s a staged “act” where people are pretending to change a battery.

I don’t need Thorazine, you need PSYCHOTIC meds, since you are having trouble with distinguishing reality from fiction.

I don’t really know IF tesla will make it (they have issue and problems) but I do know that people are not “pretending” to get a battery changed.

No, I'm a Confederate.

I don’t own a tesla, don’t really want one. But I know when someone is flat our lying or not.

a) You know you want one so you can get the adulation you're damaged mind needs. b) Lying about what?

Why don’t you just drive by a supercharger station and watch, unless you think it’s a staged “act” where people are pretending to change a battery.

You've seen an actual one in action, where was this at?

I don’t need Thorazine, you need PSYCHOTIC meds, since you are having trouble with distinguishing reality from fiction.

It's called projection and amongst your other 'issues' it's the mildest of the bunch.

I don’t really know IF tesla will make it (they have issue and problems) but I do know that people are not “pretending” to get a battery changed.

If you'd look up from your safe to handle for mental patients breakfast and utensils, you'd see that no one claimed they were faking being charged. What is claimed and as we have read, is that in the real world (something you might get a glimpse of after your morning meds) it takes longer than fifteen minutes to swap out a Tesla battery pack, not on a pre set stage but at a real world charging station. I seem to have read somewhere that the battery swap stations are a myth and the only thing you can do is get your car charged there. Since this is just a rumor, I would put it in the 'not confirmed' column.

We'll see, this technology can only go up but I find financing these feel good exercises off of my tax money is B.S.

Telsa's web page with charging stations

I don't see any mention on Tesla's own website about swapping batteries. Is this going to turn out like the Roadster's two speed transmission they couldn't get to work; they'll just dump it and claim the new, new process is better. We have always been at war with Eurasia, um er, Eastasia.

Reading someone with a bad case of Dunning-Kruger is painful, I do hope they help you although even with a successful treatment, the best you can hope for is that you'll be average.
