Well, technically it’s one ellipsis plus one period....

;^)

Merry Christmas, JH.

They could always get a job at Boeing Renton/Everett? What? They want more money too? Never mind.

I’ve always wondered about that rule.

How about if a sentence ends with a word that has a period such as Jr., etc., Mrs.?

Do you write it as ‘etc..’ or ‘Mr..’?

They are already collecting their Unemployment checks, no doubt.

Back in my day you could only get unemployment payments if you where layed off from a FULL TIME job. I don’t know if this is still the case.

But I doubt that sandwich shop workers are full time.

“Did you ever see back to the future II? The fast food place was completely automated with “Max Headroom” style Ronald Reagan and the Ayatola.”

I’ve been in convenience stores that use a low-budget version of this: you enter what you want onto a touch screen (including amounts of lettuce, mayo, etc.), and some Hispanic “replacement American” on the other side of the counter sees your order on his screen (either as pictures or in Spanish) and makes your sandwich. It is a completely non-verbal transaction.

This “Dragon” program you see advertised on TV is to allow “replacement Americans” to take even more American jobs; the program will translate broken English into the real deal for letters, emails, etc.

Hey, even the supposed “hand printed” signs had cut out lines. Astroturf perfected.

“Snarf’s closed...fight for 15 victory!”

It’s CLOSED. Now no one has ANY job there. How exactly is going from 7 bucks an hour to ZERO bucks an hour a “victory”?

This really is deluded thinking.

I don’t know. I’ve never seen two periods in general use, so I think in that case the period gets sucked into the abbreviation.

When I first heard this I thought “Sea-Tac”. I’m amazed that it hasn’t happened (yet).

No...they will apply for their jobs back and they will accept them at minimum wage. Then they’ll walk in a circle with a sign on a stick demanding twice the amount of money they just agreed to. Then we can ask the question: Well, if you didn’t think minimum wage is fair, why did you agree to that rate of pay int the first place?

Wait for THAT response. You can bet that the answer will begin with that intellectual refrain, “Hey hey, ho ho...”

I don't know what the rule in IL is. It varies from state-to-state, and I imagine IL is more lax than most, but I really don't know if these workers collect or not. I'm just betting they will.

I just came back from Wal-Mart. My son has his first job there. Flexible hours while he is in high school and earning about $8.60 per hour. Two of his friends who are on winter break from college are working there until January 12.
