Maybe he should try to bring some religious freedom back to the military while he is at it.
There, fixed it.
Here is a thought: how about remove any “tax exempt status” and let people and organizations decide for themselves what they want. This is all about the $$$ when you let IRS dictate what you believe in.
The battle between good and evil continues. May Mr. Lee fight on the side of good.
R's and D's are pretty much the same ... the Tea Party is not really official and has within itself enough libertarianism to water down what a lot of Tea Partyers would like to be dogma.
Christians are pretty much etched in stone and NO Christian would recognize gay anything and all the other ungodly crap Congress foists upon us.
We're programmed to be warriors for the Lord, so we might even be induced to pick up arms against a Satanic force.
It's a thought worth thinking about ... perhaps discussing.
You'd think he was a conservative.
If we failed to march lock-step with the Uniparty we will be accused of helping re-elect Obama. It happens a lot.
Irrelevant. Our judicial overlords will require it.
I agree with getting rid of the income tax, and your point is one reason for doing away with it.
One point: church offering plate money is not taxed because it is protected by the first amendment. What this bill by Lee does is protect the individual tax filer's charitable deduction from his own income.
Time for a domestic modern day Crusade.
Who would have ever thought that refusing to violate the tenants of your faith would be grounds for punishment by the government?
Homosexuality is part of Obama’s religion, and the pop religion that leftist government embraces, so when government tells Christian churches to perform marriages for dykes and fairies, it crosses the church and state line, which trumps the gay and straight line. Let government officials perform marriages for queers, so that the perverted couples might have all the holy blessings the bureaucratic gods can impart, and leave decent people alone.
But God made them male and female so that they could multiply and fill the earth!
When you love $$$ and want to avoid taxes, you have to play by the government rules. Can’t serve two masters.
RE: But God made them male and female so that they could multiply and fill the earth!
Not sure if you can use this argument anymore... we have artificial insemination, surrogate motherhood and adoption... all of which the homosexuals can take advantage of.
I feel that if a law needs to be involved at all, and government is involved, whether for the affirmative or negative, the battle is already lost, and the secularists have won - because we are saying that government shall set the bounds of religious behavior.
We need a bill for this?
I will not attend any church that performs same-sex marriages. It tells me they are not Biblically oriented.
God gave us the right to give to Him. Government has no business interfering in our relationship with Him. Therefore, offerings to a religion are part of exercise of religion.
So far as the individual’s income, let’s get rid of the income tax, repeal the 16th, and go to straight sales tax. Then deductions won’t matter.
Is this the foundation of the "reproductive rights" movement?
Mike Lee, like Ted Cruz, is a treasure, a blessing to Americans.
Any law that restricts the free exercise of religion should be null and void, due to the 1st Amendment, which forbids Congress from passing such a law.
All well and good that “churches shouldn’t be forced to perform gay marriages”.
HOWEVER! A lot of churches have that little nasty IRS document labeling that church to be in accordance with 503-C tax status. The IRS started shutting churches down a few years ago, if you remember, for podium speakers outcrying the ills of the government, during their sermons.
My question is this: “If you believe enough that Providence is the head of your church, why are you petitioning for governmental legitimacy through application for IRS 503-C approved status?”
Wouldn’t you think that if Providence so ordained you to obey the call, and do the work, that you would ‘be covered’, 503-C or not?”
Since God doesn’t approve of homosexuality, much less this perversion of His institution of marriage, why in the world do homosexuals want to come to the church? Unless, of course, it’s to stick it to Christians who actually believe God’s Word as written in the Bible.
Pastors and Churches have always had the right to determine whom they will marry.
For example, the couple needs to have been baptized or no marriage by that Pastor or at that church.
The government never started making laws saying Pastor or church must marry non-baptized people.
There are myriad examples of similar situations.
This is an example of the special superior status afforded one sub-set of society.
That’s exactly why they want to do this. Somehow, I don’t think they’ll be trying to do this a mosque. Wonder why? ;)
Sounds like you 1) don’t like church tax exempt status and 2) believe rights come from government.
Artificial insemination — the Catholic Church for years and years has stood against and still stands against this just as it has stood against
embryonic stem cell research
We also have “straight” anal sodomy, as well as contraception, sterilization and abortion, which makes most married husband-and-wfe couples, in effect, heterosexual gays.
It's not just about $$$, it's about survival of some religious groups and the performance of their mission. Think of the Catholic hospitals that refuse to perform abortions. They'll have to close.
They're trying to force citizens into one religion, the Religion of Liberalism.
Good point. . .however. . .
IMHO, if you believe in evolution, man and woman evolved to perform two separate sexual functions.
If you believe in Creationism, then God created man and woman to perform two separate sexual functions.
Either way, it is normal for a man and a woman to have sexual relations.
It is abnormal for a man to have sexual relations with another man, or a woman with another woman.
Are homos ‘born that way?” Who knows, but that is irrelevant when it comes to defining normal.
For example, some people are born with a heart defect, that is natural but hardly normal.
“The IRS started shutting churches down a few years ago, if you remember, for podium speakers outcrying the ills of the government, during their sermons.”
Indeed they did. . .when the speakers spoke against liberal policies.
Oddly, the IRS never goes after those activist Black churches that rally for DEMONcRATS.
It is shame that it has all come down to this. We are debating whether or not churches should be allowed to conduct certain marriage ceremonies or not.
Even if the IRS exempts gay marriages, what about gay janitors, history teachers, or part-time workers? The IRS will have authority over the sexual policies of every square inch of a conservative church or Christian school.
It is not their tax status that grants them freedom of religion. It is the first amendment.
In those states where the government is willing to grant marriage licenses to gays, the government free to have a justice of the peace perform the ceremony. But the churches are free to decline to perform a ceremony if it does not in accordance with their beliefs.
I cannot demand to have a marriage ceremony performed at a church no more than I can go to the local VFW and insist that the bartender marry us.
There are “Christians” who don’t believe a word of the Bible.
That’s what has gotten the society and country where it is. The church stopped believing anything and instead tried to be popular so they could get more people to pad their numbers.
Yes, “should”. But when the judicial and executive branches both ignore the laws and Constitution, and there are enough traitors in the legislative branch that the Constitutional remedy will never be employed - what you’ve got is absolute power. And we all know that means absolute corruption. IOW, you have no rule of law.
So Mother Theresa’s monetary offerings to God should go, via the government, to Planned Parenthood to butcher babies? Like God is tithing to demons?
Most of these guys know they just need to judge to throw it out on “Constitutional” grounds. That way, they can say they supported it, but couldn't do anything about it because of those darned judges.
How many in the GOP were praying to their golden calves that the Supreme Court would have made gay marriage the law of the land? We were bombarded with stories about this from Conservative publications.
I wonder if the Christie worshipers will even let this come to a vote, seeing as how they really don't want gay issues in the news during the GOP Primaries. After all, Christie just sicked the law on Christian Groups in NJ who wanted to minister to homosexuals. Not to mention gay marriage became the law of NJ thanks to him (in part).
Lee is authentic. Most of these guys are putting on a show for election season.
When are these folks going to arrange for a wedding at the local mosque?

CAN NOT be forced, per the 1st Amendment!!!
“...nor prohibit the FREE EXERCISE THEREOF”!!!!!
Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join this man and this other man together in the bounds of an unholy union sanctioned by a fascist government and condemned in no uncertain terms by the Almighty God.
By their carnal union today they have chosen to spit in the face of God and all that is Holy and when this ceremony has been concluded this man and this other man will have sealed their eternal fate into the hands of an Angry God who will most assuredly throw them both into the fires of eternal damnation where the worm dieth not.
Now Bruce, do you take Roger to be your lawfully wedded spouse and partner in this ceremonial Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, to have and to hold until one of you or the other enters into the gates of a fiery Hell?
That’s all good if you are Roman Catholic. However many gays are not.
I have a news flash for you, Mike Lee.
I will not perform a gay marriage wedding. Ever. Period.
You and all your government cohorts cannot force me to do that. Ever. Period.
Amendment #1 guarantees that. But what backs the Guarantee? My faith. I answer to a higher power than the US government.
Heck, I'd be fine with a flat-rate income-tax — no deductions, no credits, no exemptions, no exceptions,
Then why hasn't the Catholic church publicly excommunicates Nancy Pelosi?
The lack of church discipline on "influential people" seriously undermines the church's claim to [moral] authority.
