'You got to marry these girls when they are 15 or 16': Phil Robertson wades into new controversy
Daily Mail ^ | 12/31/2013

Unpleasant video footage of reinstated Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson has emerged in which he appears to advise young men to marry underage girls because they are easier to control.

In the 2009 Sportsmen's Ministry talk, Robertson, 67, who began dating his wife when she was 14-years-old, advises his audience, 'You got to marry these girls when they are 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks' - which is a literal reference to removing dead bird's feathers.

Warming to his stereotypical redneck theme, Robertson, who was suspended from the A&E hit for nine days earlier this month for homophobic comments, tells the gathered crowd that in addition to being young, the girls have to know how to cook and carry a Bible - 'That'll save you a lot of trouble down the road.'

While the speech given in Georgia is recounted in a somewhat tongue-in-cheek manner, in light of Robertson's strong views on traditional family values - protected by the First Amendment - they seem slightly inappropriate.

His advice for a happy marriage, which he claims is a kind of 'river rat counseling', is that all men 'Make sure that she can cook a meal. You need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out.'

Go Phil go! The Robertsons are a fine Christian family, representing the values that made America great: pro-God, pro-gun, pro-life and cherishing liberty. Sarah Palin likes them and that settles the matter as far as I'm concerned.

Did I tell you before about the blue haired reporter I used to work with that had the album cover painted on his leather jacket? SerieZley.

PCOTB and Dont talk old to me are faves and Viscious rumors probably tops both for me now that I relly think about it. I remember that album being hared for a long time but if the shirts are going for big bucks now, there is hope!

There’s an awful lot of “age not stated” on there.

Whyzat?

Can’t be. Since it never happened even though they admit it happened but only in certain... Oh hell I can’t keep up with the fantasy

My dads sisters married at 15 men who were 9 years older according to my genealogy records. The marriages were right after WW2. My wife tells me about several of her aunts who married young as well. It wasn't that uncommon and the marriages did well.

There's several things to factor in about earlier mariages in this nation. Education wasn't 12 years but an 8th grader had easilly a high school education offered today likely better as far as practical knowledge. Many persons both men and women married two or more times in their life due to death of spouse from war, disease, death at child birth, etc. Many times it was still during family building years. Location or region also played heavy into it is my guess and the prevailing economics.

In the case of Phil Robertson I think Kay's grandparents raised her. I also think the parents knew him and his family. He was a very capable provider and that was often what parents looked at.

I have to keep buying used motorcycle jackets to have all the stuff I want painted on them.

There’s an old one upstairs with the cover of “Broadsword And The Beast” from my Tull days.

Alice is hot again.

His constant touring, movie bits and the hall of fame induction have really got his collectibles up there.

Happily, I got most of mine before things went berserk.

I have 4 dupes of one tee that is now selling for $100 and up.

And no, they’re not for sale.

:)

One for the road...

Do you have the early pic of him where they look like Ricky Nelson? The old publicity photo? Real early career before he was “Alice”? Dio has one like that too. I imagine you do or have seen it for sure, but I had to ask.

You just keep saying nothing, and ignoring not only the census data, but the hard data of church and government records, marriage licenses, etc.

This kind of stuff has been researched in great detail, for instance post 100.

Your putting your hands over your ears and saying no, no, no, isn’t very adult.

No there isn't, 1847 to 1850 they give the TOTAL for marriages of females under age 20, just as they do for the rest of the years, just not the specific ages for those years. I think we can make out the overall record of it though.

Ansel, putting your hands over your eyes helps less. When 2 people on this thread say that it’s a muth and about 10 come back and tell you it isn’t...when it is pointed out to you that your census data missed a huge chunk of the population simply because there were few/no takers in rural areas, when your own admission that your own family like hundreds of millions of others has young marraige in it, then one of us has a problem with reality. Not faulty papers...reality.

Look at it from the outside. you see a guy that says X is a muth and oh by they way, I have X in my own family...but it’s still a myth. How exactly do you figgure that sounds? And please explain the difference between that and a lib saying “I am surrounded in crushing ice that isnt really here because global warming melted it all.

Thats not a straw man. Both instances show people admitting their pet idea is wrong, giving actual evidence that it is wrong and telling someone with a straight face that no, it’s not wrong.

Just a point of reference. On the first 60 posts (as far as I counted), about 25 freepers either recognized young marriage as a common factor of our past or admitted to it in their own families as a normal thing. Four were against/in denial of history.

The possibilities from that sampling.

1: the majority of freepers, who are supposedly far more aware of American and world history than the average person are wrong.

2: 4 Freepers who are supposedly far more aware of American and world history than the average person are wrong.

I wonder what Vegas would give on these odds.
