Did the nuns get to Justice Sonia Sotomayor?

In the movie "The Blues Brothers," Jake and Elwood have a hilarious reunion with a nun from their younger days at the orphange in Chicago

She tells them about the $5,000 in taxes due and the deadline. Then she did something that every Catholic will remember to one degree or another:

"I prayed so hard for you.  It saddens and hurts me that the two young men whom  I raised to believe in The Ten Commandments have returned  to me as two thieves with filthy mouths and bad attitudes.Get out!  And don't come back until you've redeemed  yourselves!"

And so they did. They put the band together and showed up with the money to save the orphanage.

Maybe it's just a movie for some.  However, it's a bit more than that for those of us who went to Catholic schools.

As every Catholic who attended parochial school knows, nuns will get in your heart and you will never forget their "right and wrong" rants. Of course, the wooden ruler, and those weekly report cards that your parents had to sign, were pretty effective too.

We learned that Justice Sonia Sotomayor has just delayed a key part of ObamaCare:

How can you go against the Little Sisters of the Poor and not come off looking like a total schmuck?

The nuns around Philly mostly voted for Obama. So I don’t know, but it is really refreshing to finally see a lib SCJ go the other way. That never happens.

I guess I am one of the few left that is old enough to remember; Morning prayers, The Pledge of Allegiance, the ruler across the knuckles, the lectures on right and wrong, paddling in the Principal’s office and oh so many others AND I went to public school.

You cannot. There isn’t a finer bunch of women anywhere.

My Great Aunt was in the Litle Sisters.

Correction: Everyone in Philly had their vote counted for Obama. Whether they actually voted for him or not!

The Catholics are fighting fire with fire, and good on them. “I’ll call your Throwing Granny Off the Cliff, and raise you 15 Little Sisters of the Poor.” Beautiful.

I went through Catholic grammar school mid-50s-early-60s with 1 nun 1 classroom 42 per room each year. The nuns made R. Lee Emery look like Pajama Boy by comparison.

We also had prayers at lunch. And I too went to a public school. It was back in the 1960's.

I attended public school as well and remember all of these things, Especially the paddling in the principal’s office.

“We are delighted that the Supreme Court has issued this order protecting the Little Sisters,” said Mark Rienzi, a lawyer with the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which is representing the Little Sisters in the case.

“The government has lots of ways to deliver contraceptives to people. It doesn’t need to force nuns to participate,” he said in a statement.

Why not:
“The government has lots of ways to deliver health care to poor people. It doesn’t need to force everyone to participate,” he said in a statement.

Technical question:

Is Sotomayor acting in concert with the rest of the SC, or is this solely her decision?

If she alone has issued the stay, what gives her the power to do so?

Thanks in advance,
Third Person
