Hospital staff in Northern Virginia are turning away sick people on a frigid Thursday morning because they can't determine whether their Obamacare insurance plans are in effect.
Patients in a close-in DC suburb who think they've signed up for new insurance plans are struggling to show their December enrollments are in force, and health care administrators aren't taking their word for it.
In place of quick service and painless billing, these Virginians are now facing the threat of sticker-shock that comes with bills they can't afford.
'They had no idea if my insurance was active or not!' a coughing Maria Galvez told MailOnline outside the Inova Healthplex facility in the town of Springfield.
She was leaving the building without getting a needed chest x-ray.
'The people in there told me that since I didn't have an insurance card, I would be billed for the whole cost of the x-ray,' Galvez said, her young daughter in tow. 'It's not fair – you know, I signed up last week like I was supposed to.'
The x-ray's cost, she was told, would likely be more than $500.
Galvez said she enrolled in a Carefirst Blue Cross bronze plan at a cost of about $450 per month through healthcare.gov, three days before Christmas.
'No one has sent me a bill,' she said.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius testified in a December 11 congressional hearing that the federal government can't say how many new enrollees have written checks for their first month's premiums.
'Some may have paid, some may have not,' she conceded.
It's unlikely that a valid insurance card would have changed Galvez' fortunes, however.

Yeah, but you see, she prolly did not know that. Lets face it. The democrats and the media hid all the the details of Obamacare and how it would work. For this to work, they should have spent the last 3 years on information so that people would understand it.
They did not because they know it sucks. It sucks and that is what pleases the democrats. They want people to suffer.

That being true, she could get 49 or so more X-rays and still have to pay for all of them .... of course, only at the lower negotiated rate!!!!!!

I work for a medical facility. A patient told me about a week ago that her obamacare policy would be 50/50 after the deductible of 11,000 for her family is met. That is with a $750/mo premium.
I do not know this woman so I can't vouch for what she said.
Actually, it sounds as if the CommieCare is working out as designed.
It could be true. Lots of times you pay the deductible and then a percentage up to a maximum and then they pick up 100%.
That means people are paying far more than the media is reporting. No one has a policy this bad until now.
Many hospitals are asking for the deductible to be paid up front. They’re pretty well experienced with people running out on their bills.

You need to pay to make sure that those illegals kids can get a good education and compete with your kids for the few jobs in the future, so get goin now. She got her hair did today using her EBT card. On her way back to her Obamahome she’s gonna trade some of her kids milk and cereal she got from WIC, for a couple of hits on the crack pipe, and don’t worry if she gets sick she already signed up for her Obamacare medicaid plan so her STD treatment is now courtesy of the taxpayers too, isn’t Obama so generous with all our hard earned money....
I believe some of the plans are 60/40 after the deductible is met.
She signed up, never made any payment, then expects free care.
That’s what I’ve heard from other BCBS PRIVATE policy holders. As far as the 0Care exchange folks, time will tell. I’m with JimRob on that, tho....NO WAY, NO HOW, NO THANKS ;)

Yep. That’s what I’m talking about regarding the crony capitalism/lobbyist payoffs that the GOPe is living large off on. As long as they receive our tax $$ - to fund this debacle - and the lobbyist perks, they could care less about our day to day lives.
I wish you the best of luck - with your docs and preferred hospitals staying in your plan. I don’t personally know anyone who has signed up for 0Care - please keep us posted.
