Britain's version of Tea Party rocks political system across the pond

The often stale British political system is being rocked by its very own Tea Party.

The UK Independence Party (UKIP), formed in 1993 opposing Britain’s entry into the European Union, failed to make an electoral dent for a long time. However UKIP has built up steam in recent years and is spearheading a seismic shift in the British political spectrum.

In this year’s local elections – the British version of midterms -- UKIP took a stunning 23 percent of the vote, up from the 3.1 percent they won in the 2010 national election. Their leader, Nigel Farage, is buoyed by their recent success.

“We want to take back our country, we want to take back our government, and we want to take back our birthright,” Farage told FoxNews.com in forthright language rarely seen in British politics.

“Cameron has radically overhauled the “Tories,” embracing nationalized health care, fighting for gay marriage, and changing the party logo from the flame of liberty to an environmentally conscious tree. This, UKIP argues, makes them indistinguishable from the left-wing Labour Party and Liberal Democrats.”

This is a key point, something that our domestic Tea Partiers need to embrace and exploit because of the fecklessness of the “conservative elites” in the GOP that basically are attacking a politically philisophical ally since the inception of the American Tea Party movement...

Find the similarities between the liberal democrats and the GOPe’s and the Tea Party can move forward as a party instead of just backing specific candidates...

Just my opinion...

So I guess this doesn't really signal a sea change. The conservatives have simply changed parties.

I'd prefer that we conservatives take over the Republican Party, and let the Collaborators start their own party.

I read the article last night. Interesting the parallels between the situations. The Tories are calling the Tea Party (ironic for a British party to be called that, eh?) racists, radicals, insane, etc.

Clearly established political orders where the parties have found an equilibrium don't like for their sweet little kingdom to be disrupted by those who want them to actually work for the people's interests.

The primaries are where the Tea Party can do the most damage to the GOPe. The GOPe tries to step on the Tea Party but the Tea Party is gum they can’t scrap off their shoes.

Which is the reason the GOPe is so busy changing the rules regarding the primary process.

Nigel Firage is like Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin wrapped up in one feisty package. Many of his speeches are available on the Yoot Tube and well worth watching.

The problem with Cameron’s strategy (as with the GOPe) is that it doesnt work. Rather than risk unpopularity by fighting the tide of political correctness, he has tried to show the electorate that he can be nice too by “modernising”. The problem is that the socialists, liberals and progressives still arent going to vote for him, and the conservatives, nationalists and capitalists who oppose the measures are going to be utterly dismayed and turn against him too. So, although in the short term he might gain some votes, in the long term he loses both ways, because he is effectively acknowledging that the liberals, socialists and progressives have won the argument and are right.

“Which is the reason the GOPe is so busy changing the rules regarding the primary process.”

Bingo!!!

The State Republican Executive Committee here in Texas has been trying to change the rules regarding the “delegate” credentials and selection process for the primariy coming up this year...These SREC committee members 60+ people who are Members of their county party executive bodies is kinda like an exclusive “internal” club of elites that believe they are above reproach...GOPe’s for lack of a better term...

They are doing this without any input from the rank and file of Precinct Chairs that may have a slight problem with these changes to the rules...Not a lot of people throwing penalty flags on this just yet either...

Just another example of how non-inclusive these elites are conducting republican party business from what I, and a few others are seeing...

All the while we get this “We need to build the party BS” from the very people drawing these lines in the sand...

Cameron’s “Conservative” Party is trying to fake some conservatism and gin up emotional wedges, talking about tougher rules for inmates in prison and such.

But its the same kind of phony malarkey the Republican politicians in this country spread around exploiting fear and resentment among grassroots conservatives.

The story of UKIP reminds us there is a third party option.

We need to understand we can fill local committee slots all we want but the party machine maintains an executive committee of insiders to make big decisions in spite of what the grassroots wants.

"I'd prefer that we conservatives take over the Republican Party, and let the Collaborators start their own party."

I'd prefer we tell the GOP/Republican party (the collaborators as you call them) to go ***k themselves and we conservatives start the "Conservative Party." A party where we lay out our Conservative values and invite ALL "Conservative", regardless their current party, to join us in reversing everything the good ol boys in both the demoncrap and repugnant parties have done. But then that's just me. Others seem to think splintering off a hand full of "Conservative" republicans within the republican party and calling them "Tea Partiers" is enough to overcome the rino establishment within the republican party and in states like Texas it is but nationally it's not and while "The Tea Party Movement" is bigger than the republican party most "Tea Partiers" will NOT vote for either a republican or a demoncrap.

"Conservatives" are neither republican or demoncrap at heart. We are always identified as "Conservatives" before being identified as either a republican, a demoncrap, a libertarian, etc. Have any of you ever heard of the "Reagan Democrats?" The "Reagan Democrats" types are NEVER going to vote for someone like mccain, romney, dole, boehner (pick your rino).

It's JMHO but until we get away from the spineless cowards that have infected and destroyed the republican party we will never have a Conservative in the White House again. Which means.... We're never going to have a Conservative in the White House nor will Conservatives ever control Capitol Hill. The antichrist barack O bamah and his demonic angels will see to that.

The Republican party is tainted both by brand and by legal agreement that they not defend themselves against voter fraud.

Better to start a new one in a way that enables a smooth transition, rather than a fractured election cycle or two.

From the article: “As a right-wing libertarian, populist movement, there are many comparisons to be drawn with the Tea Party, yet Farage argues that there are differences too, particularly that UKIP wants to take votes away from the Tories, not to reform them.”

I’d compare them to the Ross Perot party in that case, since they aren’t trying to reform the Tories, but leave them completely. In a parliamentary system, that might even work.

This time around in the U.S., however, the Tea Party emphasis is on reforming the GOP, a more fruitful approach that will drive the GOP back to the right, instead of putting the next Clinton in the Presidency as the Ross Perot voters did.

In 2006 David Cameron dismissed the newcomers as full of “fruitcakes and loonies and closet racists,” and top Tory Kenneth Clark recently branded them as “a collection of clowns.”

Sound like a bunch of "wacko-birds" to me

I don’t think it’s the liberal democrats that are analogous to the GOPe, it is the Conservative Party or “Tories”.

Conservative Tories = GOPe
Liberal Democrats = Democrats
UKIP = Tea Party

The Tea Party wants to take its base and challenge the democrats but the GOPe is in the way.

The GOPe cannot win. They can only serve to preserve the status quo or to assist the democrats in locking up power.

The Tea Party can win because among voters they comprise more than half of the GOP, they comprise nearly all of the blue collar conservatives known as the Perot faction (> 6 million voters) that sat out last election, they comprise two-thirds of independent voters and they comprise nearly all the Reagan democrats (> 5 million voters). Then also they will pull in nearly all the GOP once they remove the GOPe from power and funds. The result can be as Ted Cruz stated a “tsunami” on the Beltway ruling class.

What is the UKIP’s position on Scotland’s upcoming vote as to whether or not to secede from the UK?
