The federal Environmental Protection Agency has proposed new standards for wood stoves that would reduce the maximum amount of fine particulate emissions allowed for new stoves sold in 2015 and 2019...
The EPA currently certifies non-catalytic wood stoves if they produce less than 7.5 grams of fine particulate per hour...
The proposed EPA regulations would reduce that to 4.5 grams per hour for stoves manufactured after the regulations go into place next year...
The EPA will take public comment on the proposed changes for 90 days.

I want the next Republican president to completely gut if not abolish the EPA. They are one of the biggest job killers in this country. If I want to harvest my own lumber and use it to cook or heat my home/campsite/etc, I’m gonna do it, and no pencil-pusher is going to stop me.
I wonder how well EPA regulations burn in a wood stove.
Generally speaking “fine particulates” produce “global cooling” which could be a bad thing if Al Gore is wrong and a good thing if Al Gore is right.
Actually, back in the 80’s when people were worried about thermonuclear war, it was the “fine particulates” that would blot out the sun and produce a nuclear winter that would kill everyone.

Everyone bring a shovel...
or, a pitchfork, a torch, and a rope.

I agree with you on the way things ought to be BUT my money would be on the pencil pusher to win. History would simply repeat itself.....
Pine tar and a brush.
“The EPA will take public comment on the proposed changes for 90 days.”
After which time they’ll throw that public opinion out and do whatever the hell they want, anyway...

My sentiments exactly. Shut that rogue agency down and do it now!!!! Our Congress is totally useless. Totally.
Think busy bodies: They will drive around the neighborhood and report whose chimney is smoking. Think ‘smoking’ and how people reacted when others lit up.
I made my own wood stove with my trusty welder, and have sense made a few modifications to it. It’s about ten years old now, and when I need another one in ten or fifteen years, I’ll make it the same way.
When I was a teenager we took the old coal burning stove out of my great grandmother’s basement. We put a sheet metal jacket around it and hooked it into the ductwork of our house and burned wood in it.
As millions freeze, some with only wood to heat with, the idiots at EPA picked this time to come out with this edict?
Gut these guys Boehner.
I wonder how long before they’re busting down ice house doors to see how they’re heated?
wow... just when you thought you’d heard it all.
Only a few steps away from the federal government banning wood burning fireplaces.
Crap.
Here in Vermont everyone’s green enough, but they also use plenty of wood stoves and don’t worry too much about the smoke. Wood is local, it provides local jobs, and there aren’t enough people around to produce anything like smog, even in the towns.
I looked into it, and didn’t buy a catalytic stove, because the damned catalytic part quickly wears out. Instead, I got a well designed and vented stove that’s almost as clean as a catalytic stove—and lasts for more than a year.
I’m sure this is designed to kill the Vermont stove industry. Probably sponsored by Obama’s good pals at BP.
