Wife of Miami Dolphins’ QB Ryan Tannehill leaves AR-15 rifle in rental car

...Lauren Tannehill, wife of Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, turned in a rental car, but forgot to remove an AR-15 rifle from the back seat.

The weapon was found by the next rental customer, a woman from New York, who turned it into police.

“This is certainly the kind of item you don’t want to forget anywhere, but forgetting isn’t a crime,” said Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.

According to a BSO report, Lauren Tannehill, 26, rented a Nissan Rogue from E-Z Rent-A-Car on Jan. 4. She had the vehicle for about two hours, then turned it in for another.

” ‘Oh my God, it’s a gun,’ Ms Fleissig’s daughter said. ‘I said, ‘I think I’m going to throw up,’ she recalled. “

Jeez, I think *I’M* gonna hurl.

Where did you read this involved an airline?

Pretty hot for a blonde, but forgetting a gun mitigates heavily against her.

So...why didn’t the rental car staff discover the weapon? Don’t they clean the cars and do a check after they get turned in?

Bless her heart! I think she is in need of some remedial gun safety and handling classes. I am available any time for some private lessons. I am sure she needs a LOT of training, too, so I will make myself available for a while.

Just a service to you all because, well, that’s what I do for my fellow freepers!

In all seriousness, it sounds like she was in a hurry, likely on the phone and simply forgot all about it. She had the thing for 2 hours before getting another vehicle, so it could have been that she was having car problems and was on the phone with the rental company and was in a hurry to get somewhere and forgot it was in there. That is a simple, albeit stupid, mistake. Granted, if it were MY $2000 tricked out AR, that would be the FIRST thing I would make sure was out of the car, but being a rich NFL QB’s wife, she probably has several tricked out firearms.

Hard to fault her too much, even though it was careless. She had it in a case, it wasn’t loaded and it was in the back seat, so she pretty much did everything right except take it out of the car.

IMHO, the rental company is more to blame than anyone else. Tells me they don’t do much in between rentals. Add to that the dumbass libtard NY princess losing her lunch at the mere sight of a firearm and the idiots AFTER Lauren left the rifle in the car, to me anyway, are more to blame for all of this than anyone else. Yes, precious little Snowflake was so traumatized by the sight of one of those “eeeevill” guns that mommy had to take a picture of it and call the press to help her get over it before taking it to the poeleese. Nevermind she says she saw the name tag on the case. I guess it never occurred to her to call the OWNER and tell them that she found the rifle.

Idiots.

“Idiots.”

Idiots with an Agenda is more to the point.

You also made a VERY good point about the Car Rental Agency. Evidently they did no turn around inspection before taking their car back into their possession. That’s lousy business practice in and of itself.

In Texas, if you have a conceal permit, you can leave your weapon in your car...

Are you saying that's a statewide law?

What on earth do you do with the rifles in your pickup when you go to town?

Man, the rich really have it good. Just look at all that .22LR ammo they’re sittin’ on. I haven’t seen that much .22LR in one place since the winter of ‘11...

thackney... ‘they’ or she drove to the airport as far as I can tell from the story with a rifle in a soft-sided case. You cannot check a firearm as luggage in a soft-sided case.

The airline was not involved BUT would have told them “no”.

My point is why would you bring a firearm to the airport in a soft-sided case, at all?

They had to have totally forgotten it was there. Now if it was THEIR car, I could understand, But a RENTAL? sumthin’ ain’t right here.

I don't read a single mention of an airport in this story. Have you read this from another source?

Okay, from another source I find it was:

E-Z Rent-A-Car at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2014-01-15/sports/fl-lauren-tannehill-ar-15-rifle-rental-car-20140115_1_lauren-tannehill-ryan-tannehill-miami-dolphins

But they live in Fort Lauderdale.

http://thinkmagazines.com/meet-the-team-off-the-field-ryan-and-lauren-tannehill-find-their-niche-in-fort-lauderdale/

I don't see how this involved flying with a rifle. For them it was a local rental. They had this car two hours then exchanged it for a different one. Maybe they have a car in the shop?

There was a thread on this on FR last week. Someone posted the pic with no story about his friend who found the rifle.

My friend and her mom just rented a car at the Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood airport

Looks like Laz in post #14 gets the prize for the right call.

Well, I would have insisted on a reward.

One brick of .22 LR rounds.

I know, I know, I'm asking the world.

FWIW, the story linked to this FR post does not mention the airport. I had seen that in another article. So I get your point. No worries.

Also, for folks who live in S FL, Fort Lauderdale is a great alternative to flying out of MIA (Miami International), especially if you live a bit north of Miami.

When I go to Miami on business, I frequently fly out of Fort Lauderdale and drive to/fr there to Miami.

the hotels are a lot cheaper towards Ft Lauderdale as well.

*************

Now ... why would an NFL quarterback trophy wife rent from E-Z Rent-A-Car instead of Hertz/Avis?

Perhaps this was a ‘car in the shop’ rental situation. Dunno.

******************

Nice AR though. EOTech holographic, 4X magnifier behind it. Good sturdy flip up sights. Great for combat; home defense not so much.
Gun shop saw them coming!

Asking for the world is not so much just wanting a brick of .22 LR.

Try asking for a brick of .22LR CCI Mini-mags - round-nose or hollow point. THAT is apparently asking for the world right now.

Had ‘em on active backorder from three suppliers since October.
